(Published in Th25 An Ordinance relating to and establishing bench marks as a basis for the elevations and grades of streets and alleys in the City of Salina, defining certain duties, of the. .City Engineer and repeal- ing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith. BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas: ench Marks Established. Section 1. That the bench marks hereto- fore established in the City ,of Salina by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey and placed upon certain established buildings and at other places in the City of Salina, as hereinafter set forth, be and they are hereby established as the, official bench marks to be used in ascertaining and fixing the elevations and grades of.the streets and alleys. in the City of Salina, the location of said established bench marks and.their elevations above sea level, as fixed by said Survey and as shown in Pages 38.and 39 of Bulletin No. 571 of the United States Geological Survey of the Department of the Interior, located in what is known in the records of said Department as the "Salina Quadrangle" being as follows, to -wit: FEET Salina, in northeast part of, east of tanks of Standard Oil Co., 42.75 feet north of line of telegraph poles which para- llel on north side of the Union Pacific R. R. track, 10 feet east of north -south fence bounding land of Standard Oil Co., in limestone block 30 inches square and 15 inches high, set in concrete, which is surface mark of Station; top of copper bols lettered "U.S.CAcG. 18 96 Survey" (C&G.S B.M. Salina West Base )---------------------------------------------- 1,220.008 Salina, Missouri Pacific Ry. Station, which is constructed of rough stone, under window in west side of bow window in front of building, in face of stone window sill; intersection of two lines forming a cross, marked "USC & GSBM" (C&GS bmFl) 1,224.506 Salina, brick building owned and occupied by H. D. Lee Merc- antile Co., at left side of steps to main entrance on Santa Fe Street, in upper surface of stone coping to vestibule; bottom of square cut, marked "U.S. B.M. (C.&G.S.b.m.G 1).-- 1,225.833 Salina, brick public school building on Elm Street, 1 block west of Santa Fe St, in east wall and near south-east corner of building, in outer face of desssed stone coping to stone foundation; intersection of two lines forming a cross, lett- ered, "U.S.0 & G.S.B.M." (C.&.G.S.b.m.I. 1) ------------ 1,225.972. Present Grades. Contour lliaps. Section 2. That' the present grades of all of the streets and alleys in the City of Salina., Kansas which are now, paved, be and the same are hereby declared to be the establish- ed grades for such streets and alleys, and that the City Engineer of the City of Salina shall hereafter make a contour map of the City of Sa• ling, marking thereon the grades of such streets and alleys, based up-. on the elevations referred to in Section 1 hereof. Grades hereafter Established. Section 3. That it shall be the.dtzty of the City Engineer, whenever after the taking effect of this ordinance Any street or alley is graded or paved or any new sidewalk placed there on to establish and fix the grade of such street or alley based upon the elevations established and referred to in Section 1 hereof, and recorded as provided in the next section hereof. Grades Established by Engineer - Change by Ordinance Section 4. That all of the grades of streets and alleys in the City of Salina or any part thereof, established or fixed by the City Engineer, pursuant to the provis- ions of this ordinance be recorded by the City Engineer as a part of the permanent records of his office, and any such grade shall thereafter be considered as the established grade of any such street or. alley until the same be changed by ordinance of the City of Salina. Conflicting Ordinances Repealed. Section 5. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. Take Effect. Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its publication in the Book of nevised Ordinances of the City of Salina. Introduced for first reading, February 16th, 1925. That the pres- ent grades of all of the streets and alleys in the City of Jalina, Kansas which are now paved, be and the same are hereby declared to be the established grades for such streets and alleys, and that the City Engineer of the City of Salina shall hereafter make a contour map of the City of Salina, mailking thereon the gr@,des of such streets and alleys, based upon the elevations referred to in Section One (1) hereof. Grades hereafter established. Section 3. That it shall be the duty of the City Engineer, whenever after the taking effect of this ordinance, any street or alley is graded or paved or any new sidewalk placed thereon to establish and fix the grade of such street or alley based upon the elevetions established and referred to in Section One (1) hereof, and recorded as provided in the next section hereof. Grades Established by Engineer - Change by Ordinance. Sec- tion .4. That all of the grades of streets and alleys in the City of Salina or any part thereof, established or fixed by the City Engineer, pursuant to the provisions of this ordinance be recorded by the City Engineer as a part of the permanent records of his office, and any such grade shall thereafter be considered as the established grade of any such street or--a3ley until the same be changed by ordinance of the City of oalina. Conflicting Ordinances repealed. Section 5. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. • Take Effect. Section 6.
