An Ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City
of Galina, Kansas to pay the cost of excava.tin�, grading and
paving all of the unpaved portion Ff Santa rle venue in said
City, in the center of said Santa a Avenue as now occupied
by the tracks of the Salina St9reet Railway Company, from a
point 230 feet south of South treet to the north line of
Beloit Avenue therein, (with the"exception however of the
intersections of Prescott Avenue, Crawford Avenue, Bond
Street, Wilson Street and Republic Avenue) and relating to
and providing for the collection and payment of such
assessments.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. For the purpose of paying for the cost of exca-
vating, grading and paving all of the unpaved portion of Santa rye
Avenue in the City of Salina, Kansas in the center of said Santa
Fe Avenue as now occupied by the tracks of the Salina Street Railway
Company, from a point 230 feet south of South Street to the north
line of Beloit Avenue in said City (with the exception however of
the intersections of Prescott Avenue, Crawford Avenue, Bond Street,
Wilson street and Republic Avenue), there are hereby levied and
assessed on the property liable therefor, being all of the"lots and
pieces of ground lying on either side of said Santa Fe Avenue for
the distance improved as aforesaid to the center of the block on
either side thereof, according to the appraised value of such lots
and pieces of ground without regard to the buildings or improvements
thereon,'spefial assessments covering the cost of such work and
improvements, said special assessments being based on the special
valuation and appraisement of said lots and pieces of ground hereto-
fore made by three disinterested appraisers appointed by the Board a
Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas which said appraisement
is hereby referred to and made a part of this ordinance and the
several amounts levied, apportioned and assessed against such lots
and pieces of ground for the purpose aforesaid are hereby found and
determined to be as follows:

Section 2. Said amounts levied, apportioned and assessed
aforesaid shall be due and collectible in ten equal installment;
the first becoming due with the.taxes for the year 1924 and
one of said installments failing due each and every year
thereafter until all are paid, and all to be collected with in-
terest as in this ordinance provided; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, that ti
owner of any piece of property liable for any such assessment
may redeem his property from such liability by paying into the
City jreasury the entire amount chargeable against the same,
as'in this ordinance designated, at any time withon thirty days
after the publication of this ordinance and before the issuance
of the bonds of said City in payment of the balance of said im-
provements, and his property so paid on shall not thereafter be
liable for any further assessments for the cost of said improve•
ments, nor for any part of said bonds.
Section 3. There is hereby further levied and assessed
against each lot and piece of ground described in this ordinance
4-3/4/ interest per annum on all of said installments therein
mentioned from the date of the bonds which may be issued at
the end of thirty days aspecified in the preceding section
hereof, as by law provided, to the time of collection of the last

installments as provided by law, which said interest. shall be
collected annually at the same time and in the same manner as
said installments are collected; and after the taking effect of
this ordinance shall be the duty of the City Clerk of said City
to annually, at the same time other taxes are certified, and
until all of said installments so apportioned and levied here-
in have been certified, to certify to the County Clerk of aaline
County, Kansas, a full list of all property liable to assessment
and taxation for such work and improvement, except such property
on which the special assessments aforesaid have been paid in
full as hereinbefore provided, together with the respective
amounts due on each of such lots and pieces of ground, which
amounts shall include the annual installments of such special
assessments together with the interest for one year at the rate
of 4-3/4% per annum, on all unpaid balances of such assessments
at the beginning of each such year as aforesaid, and such
amounts so certified as herein provided shall be placed upon
the tax roll by the County Clerk of Saline County, Kansas and
collected as all other taxes are collected.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
full force from and after its publication once in the official
City paper.

Section 2. Said amounts levied, apportioned and assesse?,.
aforesaid shall be due and collectible in ten equal,insta?.lmen*,s,
the first becoming due w ith the taxes levied for the year 1324
and one of said installments falling; due each and every year
thereafter until all are paid, and all to be collected with int-
erest as in this ordinance provided; PROVIDED HOWEVER, that the
owner of any piece of property liable for any such assessment
may redeem his property from such liability by paying into the
City Treasury the entire amount chs.rgen.ble against the same,
as in this ordinance designated, at any time within thirty days
after the publication of this ordinance and before the issuance
of the bonds of said City in payment of the balance of said im-
provements, and his property so paid. on shall not thereafter be
liable for any further assessments for the cost of said improve-
ments, nor for any part of said bonds,
Section 3. There is hereby further levied and assessed,
against each lot and piece of ground described in this ordinance
4-3j/4% ,, ,
a�� interest per annum on all of said installments
therein mentioned from the date of tho bonds, which may be issued
at the end of thirty days, as specified in the preceding section:
hereof, as by 1^.w provid.edi to the time of collection of the last
installment, as provided by law, which said interest shall be
collected annually at the same time and in the same manner as
said installments are collected; and after the taking effect of
this ordinance it shall be the duty of the City Clerk of said
City to annually, at the same time other taxes are 0 entified,
and until all of said assessments so apportioned and levied here-
in have been certified, to certify to the County Clerk of Saline
County, Kansas, a, full list of 0.11 property liable to assessment
and taxation for such work and improvement, except such property
on which the special assessments aforesaid have been paid in full
as hereinbefore provided, together with the respective amounts
due on each of such lots and pieces of ground., which amounts shall

include the annual installments of such special.assessments to—
gether with the interest for one year at the rate of 4-3/4%
4 per annum,
on all unpaid balances of.sueh'assessments at the beginning of
each such year as aforesaid, and suchamounts so certified as
herein provided shall be placed upon.the tax roll by the County
Clerk of Saline County, Kansas and collected as all .other taxes
care collected.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
full force from and after its publication once in the official
City paper.
