AN ORDINANCE providing for the constructing, installing, equipping
and maintaining of a street lighting system on Santa Fe Avenue
between the south line of Walnut Street and the north.line of
Mulberry Street, and awarding a contract for the construction,
installation and equipment of such system, and providing for
the levying and assessment of special assessments against the
property abutting upon the street so improved for the payment
of such cost.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
Section 1. That a special system of street lighting be con -
strutted, installed,,equipped and maintained on Santa Fe Avenue
between the south line of Walnut Street and the north line of
Mulberry Street, such system consisting of single light ornamental
poles at intervals on either side of such street, the same to be
constructed; installed and equipped in accordance with the plans
and specifications of the City Engineer, filed in the office of the
City Clerk on December 20th, 1926, which are hereby made a part of
this ordinance, and maintained by the city at large as provided by
law.
Section 2. That a contract for the construction, installa-
tion and equipment of such street lighting system be and the same
is hereby awarded to the United Power and Light Corporation for the
sum of $315.00 the same being hereby found and determined to be less
than the City Engineers estimate of the cost thereof.
Section 3. For the purpose of paying the cost of constructing,
installing and equipping said street lighting system, which is hereby
determined to be the sum of $315.00, there is hereby levied and
assessed against the property liable therefore, being the lots and

pieces of ground abutting upon said Santa Fe Avenue, between the
limits above defined, according to the. front foot thereof, special
assessments covering the test of such work and improvements, and
the several amounts apportioned and assessed against such lots and
pieces of ground as aforesaid are hereby found and determined to be
as follows:

Section 4. That said amounts levied, apportioned and
assessed as aforesaid shall be due and collectable in ten annual
installments, the first to become due with the taxes levied and
assessed for the year 1927 and one each year thereafter until all are
paid, all of the same to be collected with interest as in this ordinance
provided; but the owner of any piece of property liable for any such

assessment may redeem his property from such liability by paying into
the city Treasury the entire amount chargeable against the.same at
any time within thirty days after the publication of this ordinance.
Section 5. That there is further levied against each lot
and piece of ground above described five percent interest per annum
on all such installments from the date of the bonds to be issued as
hereafter provided for, to the date of the last installment, which
shall be collecged annually at the same time and in the same manner
as said installments and the City Clerk shall annually at the tiiie
other taxes are certified.. certify to the County Clerk a list of
properties liable to such assessments with the amounts due thereon,
including said interest, and such amounts shall be placed -on the tax
rolls by the County Clerk of Saline' County and collected as other taxes
are collected.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its publication in the official city paper.
