AN ORDINANCE providing for the constructing, installing, equipping
and maintaining of a street lighting system on Twelfth Street
between the north line of Ash Street and the south line o
Bishop Street, and authorizing a contract for the construe -
tion, installation and equipment of such street lighting
system; and providing for the levying and assessment of
special assessments against the property abutting upon the
street so improved for the payment of such cost.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
Section 1. shat a special system of street lighting be
constructed, installed, equipped and maintained on.Twelfth Street
between the north line of Ash Street and the south line of Bishop
Street in the City of Salina, such system to consist of what is
commonly known as a White Way system of single light ornamental
poles at intervals on either side of such street, the same to be con-
structed, installed and equipped in accordance with the plans and
specifications of the City Engineer, filed in the office of the
City Clerk on October 4th, 1926, which are hereby made a part of
this ordinance, and maintained by the city at large as provided by
law.
Section 2. That the contract for the construction, installa-
tion and equipment of the special street lighting system provided for
in Section One (1) of this ordinance, duly entered into between the
City of Salina and The United Power and Light Corporation on October
11th, 1926, which provides for the construction, installation and
equipment of such lighting system by said corporation and for the
sum of $519.55 be and the same is hereby approved and confirmed, the
same being hereby found and determined to be less than the City
Engineer8s estimate of the cost thereof.
Section 3. For the purpose of paying the cost of con-
structing, installing and equipping said street lighting system, as
provided in Section One (1) of this ordinance, which cost is hereby
determined to be the sum of $519.55 the contract price therefor as
authorized by Section Two (2) of this ordinance, there is hereby
levied and assessed against the property liable therefor being the
lots and pieces of ground abutting upon Siad Twelfth Street between
the north line of Ash Street and the south line of Bishop Street,
according to the front foot thereof, special assessments covering
amounts apportioned and assessed against each of said lots and pieces
of ground as aforesaid are hereby found and determined to be as follows:

Section 4. That said amounts levied, apportioned and
assessed as aforesaid, shall be due and collectable in ten equal install-
ments, the first two becoming due with the taxes levied and assessed for
the year 1927 and one each year thereafter until all are paid, all of the
same to be collected with interest as in this ordinance provided; that
the owner of any piece of property liable for any such assessment may re-
deem his property from such liability by'paying into the City Treasury
the entire amount chargeable against the same at any time within 30 days
after the publication of this ordinance.
Section 5.. That there is hergby levied and assessed against
each lot and piece of ground described in,this ordinance 5 per cent
interest per annum on all said installments herein mentioned from the
date of the bonds to be issued as may hereafter be provided for, to the
time of collection of the last installment, which interest shall be
collected annually at the same time and in the same manner assaid in-
stallments are collected and after the taking effect of this ordinance
the City Clerk shall annually at the same time other taxes are certified,
certify to the County Clerk a list of property liable to such assessments
with the respective amount due thereon, including the annual installments
of interest at 5 per cent per annum and such amounts shall be placed upon
the tax roll by the County Clerk of Salina County, and collected as other
taxes are collected.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from'and after its publication once in the official city paper.
