occupy any and all of the streets in said City f m such purposes."
by adding a new section, providing for the establishment and
operation 0 a bus line or lines and the abandonment of a certain
line of street railway therein, and the conditions thereof.
BE IT ORDAINED, by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. That Ordinance No. 1298 of the City of Salina, passed
and approved February 12th, 1906, as amended by Ordinance No. 2247, passed
and approved April 14th, 1919, be and the same is hereby amended by adding
thereto a new section to be designated as Section 21 of said Ordinance,
as follows:
"Section 21. That the Salina Street Railway Company, the successors and
assignee of E. S. Alnutt, the grantee in the franchise provided for in
Ordinance No. 1298, of the City of Salina, be and it is hereby granted the
privilege and franchise to operate and maintain, and sais company, by its
acceptance of this -grant agrees to operate and maintain, in lieu of that
portion of the street railway-bystem now maintained and operated by it and
known as "East Side Line", a bus line for the transportation and carrying of
passengers over, on and along such streets as are hereinafter designated.
Said company shall maintain and operate over, on and along such streets,
at all times during the period of this franchise and between the hours of
6:30 o'clock .4. N1, and 11:00 olelock P. M, df each day, at intervals of
not more than twenty minutes in each direction, busses of a standard type
of construction to be approved by the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas, with a seating capacity of not less than 20 persons. The
rate of fare for one continuous pnd regular trip, from or to any point on
the line or lines herein provided for, to or from any other point on said
line or lines or any poinO on the street railway system operated by said
company, whether within or without the city, shall not exceed five cents
,
per passenger which shall include the privilege of transfer to and from the
lines of street rofilway now or hereafter operated by said company or any
o,,her bus line hereafter operated by it, provided that children under the
age of sixteen ,years going to and from public or private schools shall
have bhe privilege of purchasing books of tickets at the rate of 100 tickets
for $4.00. Said company shall at all times keep and maintain the standards
and schedules of service herein required and shall increase such equipment
from time; to time whenever the same becomes necessary to take care of the
usual and ordinary passenger traffic of the community or communities which
said line or lines are to serve. The vehicles used shall be heated during
weather when heat is necessary, and shall be kept at all times in'a clean
and sanitary condition and said vehicles and the brakes and all appliances
thereon shall be at all times kept in a good and safe mechanical condition.

The bus line herein provided for shall run from the intersection of Iron
Avenue with the Eastern limits of the -City of Salina, Kansas, now or
hereafter exisiting, thence west on said Icon Avenue to Ninth Street, add
on such other streets in sedid city on which bus lines may be hereafter
established by said company with the consent of the governing body of
said city; PROVIDED, however that it is a condition, and one of the
considerations of, this grant, that said line shall at all times during
the period of said grant be operated as a part of one continuous line
which shall in addition to the line to be operated on Iron Avenuw, run
East from the city limits of the City of Salina, past the entrance to
the road leading to the Gypsum Hill Cemetary, on what is known as the
Country Club Road, to the end of said road at the East line of Section
18, Township 14, Range 2, thence North along said SBotion lSne to the
entrance of the Country Club grounds, said line to be operated outside
of the city limits of the City of Salina in all respects the same as
that portion which lies within the present limits.of said city. The
term of this franchise shall be the same as that provided for in said
Ordinance No. 1298 as amended by Ordinance No. 2247 and all of the
conditions, restrictions and requirements contained in said ordinances
shall apply to this grant where applicable and where they are not
specifically in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance. When
this ordinance shall have taken effect, and the bus line on Iron Avenue
provided for herein including the extension east from the City limits,
shall,be in operation to the satisfaction of the Board of Commissioners,
said company shall remove from those streets on which said present East
Side car line is now operated, which are unpaved, its rails, ties,
trolley lines and poles and shall remove its rails, trolley lines and
poles from any portion of any street which is now paved, and where such
rails and ties or either o" them are removed said company shall restore
any such street to the then existing grade and condition of the remain-
ing portion of such street and put the same in good condition for use as
a publid thoroughfare, under, the supervision and -subject to the approval
of the City Engineer. Any violation odi.any of the provisions of this
ordinance either as to service within.or without said city, or otherwise
or on any line established hereunder,.shall be deemed a violation o f the
franchise granted by said Ordinance No. 1298 to the same elterit and
to the same effect as a failure to run cars over any portion of said company'
railway tracks or.the abandonment of any portion of said street railway
syste, as provided in baid original franchise ordinance".
Section 2:. This ordinance shall take effect and bein force after
its acceptance in writing by said Salina Street Railway Company and after
its publication once each week for three consecutive weeks, in the official
City paper, and after the expiration of sixty days from the date of its
final passage.

In consideration of the provisions and franchises therein granted
or to be granted to The Salina Street Railway Company, said Salina Street
Railway Company hereby proposes and requ6sts the adoption and passage of
said ordinance and agrees that upon said adoption and final passage thereof
it will accept the same in writing and comply with all of the Perms,
conditions and provisions thereof.
