AN ORDINANCE relating to and apportioning and levying special assess-
ment on certain lots and pieces ofg round in the City of Salina
to pay the cost of recurbing Santa a Avenue from the north line
of Ash Street to the south line of a nut treet in the City of
Salina; Kansas, and relating to and providing for the collection
and payment of such assessments.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
Section 1. That for the purpose of paying for that part of

the. cost of recurbing Santa Fe Avenue from the north line of Ash
Street to the south line of Walnut Street in the City of Salina,
Kansas, which is chargeable to private property, and which cost is
hereby determined to be the sum of $757.36, there are hereby levied
and assessed on the property liable therefor, being all the lots
and pieces of ground lying on either side of said street above
mentioned for the distance improved as aforesaid to the center of
the block according to the appraised value of such lots and pieces
of ground without regard to the buildings or improvements thereon,
special assessments covering the cost of such work and improvements,
said special assessments being based on the special valuation and
appraisement of said lots and pieces of ground heretofore made by
three disinterested appraisers appointed by the Board of Commissioners
of the City of Salina, Kansas, which said appraisement is hereby re-
ferred to and made a part of this ordinance, and the several amounts
levied, apportioned and assessed against such lots and pieces of
ground for the purpose aforesaid are hereby found and determined to
be as follows:

Section 2. Said amounts levied, apportioned and assessed afore-
said shall be due and collectible in ten equal installments the first
becoming due with the taxes levied for the year 1933 and one of said
installments falling due each and every year thereafter until all are
paid,_ arid -all -to -be collectedwithinterest as in this ordinance pro-
vided; PROVIDED HOWEVER, that the owner of any piece of property
liable for any such assessment may redeem his property from such
liability by paying into theCity Treasury the entire amount charge-
able against the same, as in this ordinance designated, at any time
within -thirty days after the publication of this ordinance and before

the issuance of the bonds of said city in payment of the balance of
said improvements, and his property so paid on shall not thereafter
be liable for any further assessments for the cost of said Improve-
ments, nor for any part of said bonds.
_Section 3. Where is hereby further levied and assessed
against each lot and piece of ground described in this ordinance
4 per cent. interest per annum -on all of said installments therein
mentioned.from the date of thebonds, which may be issued at the
end of thirty days, as specified in the preceding section hereof,
as by law provided, to the time of collection of the last install-
ment, as provided by law, which said interest shall be collected
annual-ly.at, the same _ time and in. the._ same..manner as said installments
are collected; and after the taking effect of this .ordinance it shall
be the duty of the City Clerk of said city to annually, at the same
time other taxes are certified, and until all of said assessments so

apportioned and levied herein have been certified, to certify to the
County Clerk of Salina County, Kansas, a full list of all property
liable to assessment and taxation for such work and improvement, except

such property on which the special assessments aforesaid have been
paid in full as hereinbefore provided, together with the respective
amounts due on each of such lots and pieces of ground, which amounts
shall include the annual installments of such special assessments to-
gether with the interest for one year at the rate of four per cent per
annum, on all unpaid balances of such assessments at the beginning of
each such year as aforesaid, and such amount so certified as herein
provided shall be -placed upon the tax roll by the County Clerk of
Saline County, Kansas and collected as all other taxes are collected.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force. from and. after_ its publication .once in the official city paper.
