AiI ORDIuANCE relating to and apportioning and levying special assess-
ments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of Salina to
pav the cost of curbing, guttering and paving of University Place
from the east line of Baker Street to the west line of Twelfth STreet
in the City of Salina, Kansas, and relating to and providing for the

collection and payment of such assessments.

Kansas:
Section 1. That for the purpose of paying for that part of the
cost of curbing, guttering and paving University Place from the east
line of Baker Street to the west line of Twelfth Street in the City of
Salina, Kansas, which is chargeable to private property, and which cost
is hereby determined to be the sum of $1,297.73, there are hereby levied
and assessed on the property liable therefor, being all the lots and
pieces of ground lying on either side of said street above mentioned
to the middle of the block for the distance improved as aforesaid
according to the appraised value of such lots and pieces of ground
without regard to the buildings or improvements thereon, special
assessments covering the cost of such work and improvements, said spec'al',
assessments being based on the special valuation and appraisement of
said lots and pieces of ground heretofore made by three disinterested
appraisers appo'.nted by the _soard. of Commissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas, which said appraisement is hereby referred to and made
a' part of this ordinance, and the several amounts levied, apportioned
and assessed amainst such lots and pieces of ground for the purpose
aforesaid are hereby found and determined to be as follows:

Section 2.
Said
amounts levied, apportioned and assessed aforesaid
shall
be

and collectible in ten equal installments

PRO`i IDS HOWEVER, that the owner of any piece of
property
liable for an such assessment may redeem his
Y y property from such
liability by pasrinr- into the City Treasure the entire amount charge-
alole against the same, as in this ordinance designated, at any ti_.e
within thirty days after the publication of this ordinance and before
the issuance of the bonds of said city in payment of the balance of
said improvements, and his property so paid on shall not thereafter
be liable for any further assessments for the cost of said improve-
ments, nor for any part of said bonds.
:recti on 3. There is hereby further levied and assessed against
each lot and piece of ground described in this ordinance 31 per cent
interest per annum on all of said installments therein mentioned
from the date of the bonds, which may be issued at the end of thirty
days, as specified in the preceding section hereof, as by law
provided, to the time of collection of the last installments, as
provided by law, which said interest shall be collected annually
at the same time and in the :same manner as said installments are
collected; and after the taking effect of this ordinance it shall
be the duty of the City Ulerk of said city to annually, at the same
time other taxes are certified, and until all of scr.id assessments
so app�,rtioned and levied herein have been certified, to certify
to the County Clerk of Sal'ne County, Kansas, a full list of all
property liable to assessment and taxation for such work and im-
provement, except such property on which the special assessments
aforesaid have been paid in fall as hereinbefore provided, together
with the respective amounts due on each of such lots and pieces of
ground, which amounts shall include the annual installments of such
special assessments together with the interest for one year at the
rate of 31 per annum, on allunpaid balances of such assessments
at the beginning of each such ,year as aforesaid, and such amounts
so certified as herein -)rovlded shall be placed u --on the tax roll
by the County Clerk of Salind County, Kansas and collected as all
other taxes are collected.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force from and after its publication once in the of"'Icial city
paper.
