AN ORDINANCE relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and piedes of ground in the
City of Salina to paTT the cost of paving C-nter Street
from the east line of Fifth Street to entrance to Kenwood Park
in the City of Salina, Kansas, and relating to and providing
for the collection and payment of such assessments.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
SECTION 1, That for the purpose of paying for the cost of
paving Center Street from the east line of -Lifth Street to entrance
to Kenwood Park in the City of Salina, Kansas, there are hereby
levied and assessed on the propert-s liable therefor, being all
the lots and pieces of ground lying on either side of said street
above mentioned for the distance improved as aforesaid to the center
of the block, according to the appraised value of such lots and
pieces of ground without regard to the buildings or imp7-�ovements
thereon, special assessments covering the cost of such worir and
improvements, said special assessments being based on the special
valuation and appraisement of said lots and pieces of g round hereto-
fore made by three disinterested appraisers appointed by the Board
of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas, which said appraise-
ment is hereby referred to and made a part of this ordinance, and the
several amounts levied, apportioned and assessed against such lots
and pieces of ground for the purpose aforesaid are hereby found
and determined to be as follows:

Section 2. Said amounts levied, apportioned and assessed aforesaid
shall be due and co lectible in ten equal installments, the first
becoming due with the taxes levied for the year 1930 And one of said
installments falling due each and every year thereafter until all are
paid, and all to be co jected with interest as in this ordinance
provided; PROVID 0 HOWEVER, that the owner of any piece of property
liable for any such assessment may redeem his property from such
liability by paying into the City Treasury the entire amount
chargeable against the same, as in this ordinance designated, at any
time within thirty days after the publication of this ordinance and
before the issuance of the bonds of said city in payment of the balance
of said improvements, and his property so paid on shall not thereafter
be liable for any furhter assessments for the cost of said improve-
ments, nor for any part of said bonds.
Section 3. There is hereby further levied and assessed against
each lot and piece of ground described in this ordinance 42 per cent
interest per annum on all of said installments therein mentioned from
the date of the bonds, which may be issued at the end of thirty days,
as specified in the preceding section hereof, as by law provided,
to the ti4e of collection of the last installment, as provided by law,
which said interest shall be collected annually at the same time
and in the same manner as said installments are collected; and
after the taking effect of this ordinance it shall be the duty
of the City Clerk of said city to annually, at the same time. other
taxes are certified, and until all of said assessments so apportioned
and levied herein have been certified, to certify to the County
Clerk of Sal_i_ne County, Kansas, a full list of all property liable
to assessment and taxation for such work and improvement, except
such property on which the special assessments aforesaid have been
paid in full as hereinbefore provided, together with the respective
amounts due on each of such lots and pieces of ground, which amounts
shall include the annual installments of such special assessments
together with the interest for one year at the rate of 41c�per annum
on all unpaid balances of such assessments at the beginning of each
year as aforesaid, and such amounts so certified as herein provided
shall be placed upon the tax ro ' by the County L'lerk of Saline
County, Kansas and collected as all other taxes are collected.
Section 4 This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force from and after its publication once in the official city paper.

An Ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special

City of Salina to pay the cost of paving Center Street

Salina, Kansas:
