5535 Water Connections- ORDINANCE NO. 5535 (First Published in the Salina Journal _- ------- -------- -------- AN ORDINANCE prescribing certain standards for the installation ofwater connections and lead lines, mending Section 6-409, Revised Ordinances of the City of Salina, 1948 and providing for the repeal of said Section 6-409. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF C011dISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SALINA: Section 1. ,Amendment. That Section 6-409, Revised Ordinances of the City of Salina, 1946, be and it is hereby amended to read as follows:.. "6-409. Connections. All service pipes and connections in said city over, through or along any s ee , lane, avenue or alley, from the corporatescock on the water mains to the stop cock shall be of cast iron double extra strong lead pipe or type K copper pipe with flared fittings 1i inch or larger, shall be permitted or used in making such connections. In installations from the water main to the'curb cock the size of the line shall be adequate to provide a minimum of a water full 3/4" line to the premises of each consumer using water therefrom. That a minimum of 3/41, lead line shall be provided to the premises of each consumer. At the point of connection with the corporation cock the lead pipe shall be bent in an "S" or other form to allow for movement of the pipe. All service pipe shall be laid ax at least three feet below the surface of the sidewalk and be so protected as to prevent repture from freezing or damage from other causes. All joints and connections shall be of brass, screw type flared or wiped joints. Each service shall be furnished, at the curb line, with a round way "T" handles, brass stop or curb cock with an inverted key -cock located not more than twelve (12) inches from the street curb, provided that the Superintendent of the Waterworks Department of the City of Salina may direct or permit the curb cock to be placed in a different location where he deems it necessary or advisable and pro- vided that where more than one consumer is served through a single service pipe, a curb cock and stop box must be provided for each branch of such service. The curb cock shall be protected by an approved service box, the top of which must be flush with the top of the ground, and must reach from the pipe to the surface. The "T" handle of the curb cock shall stand parallel to the curb when shut. A stop and waste cock must be placed inside of the foundation of the building to be used by the consumer for shutting off the water to avoid damage or waste of water in case of accident or cold weather. All water pipes and branches inside of the building must drain toward this cock. All such service pipes and all other cocks "T's", valves andother fittings shall be in- stalled by the owner of the premises to be supplies, in accordance with the provisions of this article and any other ordinances of the city now or hereafter in effect and shall be and remain the property of such owner, but no part of the same which lies in any street or public property shall be removed except in accordance with the ordinances of the City of Salina then in force and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Street Department and of the Water Works Department of said city. On streets where paving has been or is ordered to be laid, old service pipes other than lead, copper, or cast iron must be replaced at the expense of the property owner, 9Ghen service pipes are laid only to the curb for future use, the end of the pipe must be securely capped or plugged and a curb cock and service box installed." Section 2. Repeal. That the original of Section 6-409, Revised Ordinances of the City of Salina, 1918, be and it is hereby repealed. Section 3. Effective. That this ordinance shall be in full force and affect from and after its adoption and publication once in the official city paper.
