ORDINANCE NUMBER 90-9400
AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR SUBMISSION OF
THE QUESTION OF IMPOSING A RETAILERS' SALES TAX TO THE ELECTORS OF
THE CITY IN RESPONSE TO PETITION AS REQUIRED BY K.S.A. 12-187.
Kansas:
BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina,
Section 1. Petitions have been filed with the County Election Officer
and the City Clerk pursuant to K.S.A. 12-187 that appear to contain a sufficient
number of signatures to mandate submission to the electors of the City the
following proposition:
SHALL THE CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS, IMPOSE AN
ADDITIONAL ONE-HALF CENT (1/24) RETAILERS' SALES
TAX BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1991, AND ENDING
DECEMBER 31, 1992, WITH THE PROCEEDS TO BE USED
LOCALLY FOR THE MERGER OF THE KANSAS COLLEGE OF
TECHNOLOGY WITH KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY AS THE
KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY - SALINA CAMPUS.
Section
2.
As required
by K.S.A. 12-187,
the above
proposition is
hereby submitted
for
consideration
by the electors
of the City
at a special
election to be held September 25, 1990, subject to verification of the sufficiency
of the number of signatures on the petitions by the County Election Officer. If
a majority of the electors voting on the proposition at the special election
approve the levying of the tax, the governing body shall provide by ordinance
for the levying of the tax.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to request that the County
Election Officer take all steps necessary to conduct the special election called
above, including the publication of the notice of the special election pursuant to
K.S.A. 12-187 and 10-120, which notice shall state the time of the election, rate
of the proposed tax and the beginning and ending date of the proposed tax.
Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption and publication once in the official city newspaper.
