AN ORDINANCE providing for the amendment of Sections 6-,422 and 6-423 Revised Ordinances
of the City of Salina, Kansas, 1918, and providing for the repeal of the originals of
said sections,
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. That Section 6-,422, Revised Ordinances of the City of Salinas 1948, be
and it is hereby amended to read, as follow:

n6-422. Traps and Clean -outs, Where Used. Each single fixture, except those wast
ir
as prescribed under this article, shall be separately trapped by a water seal trap, which
trap shall be vented, and placed as close to the fixture as possible.
Kind of Traps. Every trap shall be self-cleaning. Brass tubing traps shall be not
less than 17 gauge thick. No form of trap which depends upon action of movable parts
for its seal shall be used. No trap rich depends upon concealed interior portions for
its seal or uhich has an interior partition, that in case of defect would allow the
passage of sewer air, shall be used. Each drum trap shall be inverteds where possible,
and shall be vented from underneath the floor as near the top of the trap as possible
with lead pipe neatly wiped into the trap and carried above the water line near the fixture.
All vent lines shall in no case be less than the schedule of size as herein given for the
different classes of fixtures. Traps for bath tubs, basins, sinks or other similar fix-
tures shall be made of lead or brass,
Water Seal. Each trap shall have a water seal of not less than two inches.
Cleanouts. Each trap, except those in combination with fixtures where trap seal is

plainly visible and accessibles shall be provided with a brass trap screw. Traps placed
beneath the floor shall have a brass trap screw for cleaning, in plain views or flush with
the floor, or readily accessible from or under the floor.
Trap Levels and Protection All traps shall be rigidly supported and set true, with

respect to their water level, and shall be so located as to protect their seal.
jFloor Drains. Floor drains shall have a permanent water seal.

Vents, Notwithstanding any other provisions hereof, the use of a two inchs or larger,
cast iron vent on bath tubs is hereby authorized*"
Section 2, That Section 6-123, Revised Ordinances of the City of Salina, Kansas$ 1948s
be and it is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6-423. Clean -outs. Clean -outs shall be of the same size as the pipes up to four
inches in diameter., and shall be not less than four inches for larger pipe traps. Clean -
outs shall be at least four inches long with airtight screw joints with brass plugs.

Clean -outs shall be provided at the foot of all vertical lines of soil pipe and at the
end of each horizontal line, and at each change in direction which is more than five feet
in lengths provided, however, that in dwellings constructed with concrete slab floors and
without basements, that the clean6ut, in lieu of being at the base of the stack may be

installed in the soil pipe outside the foundation of the house or in accessible place
above the floor. The distance between cleanouts shall not exceed 25 feet. There shall

be at least one four inch cleanout provided in the house drain made with a full size Y

branch just inside of the wall near the house drain and house sewer connection. Inter-
mediate cleanouts may be made with T cleanouts with brass plugs

j Section 3• That the original of Section 6-422 and 6-423s Revised Ordinances of the

City of Salinas Kansas, 1948, be and they are hereby repealed.
Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
adoptiil , once in the official city paper.
