ORDINANCE NUMBER 96-9772
AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THE STRUCTURE LOCATED AT 2035
EAST IRON AS A HERITAGE CONSERVATION (HC) LANDMARK.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina,
Kansas
Section 1. That the structure located on the following described real
estate to wit:
All that part of Lot Three (3), Surveyor's Plat No. 34 in Section
Eighteen (18) , Township Fourteen (14) South, Range Two (2) West
of the 6th Principal Meridian, in Saline County, Kansas, which is
more particularly described as follows:
Commencing at the northeast corner of said Section 18; thence
N89 -53'45"W, thirty (30.00) feet to the point of beginning; thence
N89°53'45"W along the north line of said Section 18, Three Hundred
Eighty-seven and Twenty Hundredths (387.20) feet; thence
S00°16'55"W, Four Hundred Twenty-two and Ninety-nine Hundredths
(422.99) feet; thence S89053'45"E, Three Hundred Eighty-five and
Twenty-five Hundredths (385.25) feet; thence N00'32'50"E, Four
Hundred Twenty-three (423.00) feet back to point of beginning.
The above described tract of land contains 3.750 acres more or less.
AND
Commencing at the northeast corner of said Section Eighteen (18) ,
thence west along the north line of said Section Eighteen (18) on a
bearing of N89°53'45"W, Four Hundred Seventeen and Twenty
Hundredths (417.20) feet; thence S00°16'55"W, One Hundred
Sixty-seven and Twenty-two Hundredths (167.22) feet to the point
of beginning; thence continuing S00'16'55"W, Two Hundred Fifty-five
and Seventy-seven Hundredths (255.77) feet, said point being on
the north right-of-way line of Iron Street; thence N89053'45"W, along
the said north right-of-way, Ninety-two and Seventy-four
Hundredths (92.74) feet; thence N8'20110"E, Ninety-three and Three
Hundredths (93.03) feet; thence N 25°07'40"E, One Hundred
Thirty-two and Eighty-nine Hundredths (132.90) feet; thence N
2906'47"E, Forty-nine and Fifty Hundredths (49.50) feet back to the
point of beginning.
The above described tract of land contains .337 acres more or less.
Known as 2035 East Iron Avenue,
be and the same is hereby designated as an Heritage Conservation (HC)
Landmark.
Section 2. That the types of significant exterior architectural
features of the nominated property that should be protected are:
a) Tudor detailing, consisting of decorative masonry and stone
course work; embellishment of the structure by means of carved
stone arches, reliefs, door and window surrounds,
stringcourses, parapets and trim;
b) Open verandas, their design and construction material and
decorative metal railings;
c) Gothic detailing of the Chapel structure, consisting of arched
windows, stained glass and wood tracery.
Section 3. That the types of construction or alteration other than
those requiring a building permit, that cannot be undertaken without a
certificate of appropriateness include:
a) Removal or significant alteration to the west sunken garden,
Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto and walled driveways.
b) Installation of additional driveways and parking lots in the
grassed front yard areas surrounding the building.
Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption and publication once in the official city newspaper.
