98-9893 Submit Tax Electors(Published in The Salina Journal Cc Yo i t e )-- , 1998) ORDINANCE NUMBER 98-9893 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 98-9887 AND REPEALING THE EXISTING SECTION. WHEREAS, on August 26, 1998, the governing body adopted Ordinance Number 98- 9887 (the "Ordinance") submitting to the electors of the City the question of imposing an additional quarter percent (1/4%) retailer's sales tax, beginning January 1, 1999, and ending June 30, 2004, with the proceeds to purchase instructional technology and career/technical education equipment, services and training for U.S.D. No. 305; and WHEREAS, while Section 1 of the Ordinance correctly submitted the question to the electors voting on the proposition at the county "general" election on November 3, 1998, Section 5 of the Ordinance directing the City Clerk to request that the County Election Officer take all steps necessary to include the proposition set forth in Section 1 on the ballot inadvertently referred to the county "primary" election; SO NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: Section 1. Section 5 of Ordinance Number 98-9887 is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 5. The City Clerk is directed to request that the County Election Officer take all steps necessary to include the proposition set forth in Section 1 above on the ballot for the 1998 county general election, including publication of the notice of the election pursuant to K.S.A. 12-187 and 10-120. The notice shall be published in The Salina Journal once each week for two consecutive weeks, with the first publication to be not less than twenty-one (21) days prior to the election. The notice shall set forth the time and place of the election and the proposition to be determined." Section 2. Section 5 of Ordinance Number 98-9887 is hereby repealed. Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and publication once in the official city newspaper. Introduced: September 21, 1998 Passed: September 28, 1998 Peter F.
