ORDINANCE NUMBER 6120

AN ORDINANCE ratifying and confirming a contract with Jarvis Construction Company for the
construction of a bridge in the City of Salina Kansas, heretofore designated as The Iron
Avenue Bridge, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the cost thereof,
pending the issuance and sale of bonds.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. That the acceptance of the City of Salina, Kansas, of the proposal of the
Jarvis Construction Company, hereinafter referred to as the "Contractor" as submitted to
the Board of Commissioners on January 29, 1957, in the amount of $242,612,00
which is hereby found to be the lowest and best bid for such work, and the contract awarded
by the Board of Commissioners of said City to said contractor and signed on behalf of the
City by its Mayor on February 5, 1957, for the construction of certain public improvements in the
City of Salina, Kansas, to -wit:
Work to be done consists of furnishing all labor, construction
equipment, materials and performing all operations required to
construct the Iron Avenue Bridge including construction of a
shoofly and temporary sewer and water lines, removal of existing
sidewalk, euro and gutter, and pavement, construction of permanent
water and sewer lines including curb and gutter and all other
work not shown or specified by essential to the proper completion
of the project, including precautionary work necessary for the
protection of new and existing structures. All work shall be completed,
ready for traffic and use, in accordance with the detailed drawings
and specifications.
All work shall comply with the Standard Specifications for State
Road and Bridge Construction, Edition 1955, of the State Highway
Commission of Kansas, and all General Conditions and Supplemental
Specifications included herein. Where the Terms "Commission", "State
Highway Commission of Kansas" appear in the referenced Standard
Specifications they shall be interpreted to mean the City of Salina,
Kansas hereinafter referred to as the Owner. The work "Engineer"
appearing in the referenced Standard Specifications shall be construed
to mean the firm of Wilson and Company, Engineers and Architects,
705 East Crawford, Salina, Kansas. In case of differences between
the referenced Standard Specifications and supplemental specifications contained
herein, the supplemental specifications shall govern.
The site of the work is within the city limits of Salina, Kansas,
the exact location being on East Iron Avenue with centerline of
the bridge located approximately 300 feet west of Mount Barbara Drive.
All work shall be performed on public property or property to which
the City has obtained proper easement.
The drawings governing and controlling the work and to which
reference is made throughout these specifications, consist of
16 sheets, iddntified under Project Number 155-86A,
at and for the unit price for said work contained in said proposal, which proposal and contract.
are hereby referred to and made a part of this ordinance, be and the same is hereby ratified and
1confirmed, said proposal being within the estimated cost of said improvements as shown by the
sworn estimate of the Wilson Engineering Company on file in the Office of the City Clerk which
lestimate is, hereby referred to and made a part of this ordinance.

Section 2. Said improvements shall be built and constructed in accordance with the
plans and specifications therefore prepared by the Wilson Engineering Company on file in the
office of the City Clerk and in accordance with the proposal of said contractor and under they
terms of said contract, all of which are hereby mPamd to and made a part of this ordinance".
Section 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after
its publication once in the official city paper.
