ORDINANCE NUMBER
AN ORDINANCE DEFINING THE DUTIES OF THE DIRECTCR OF UTILITIES,!
DEPARTMENT HEADS l'.ND EMPLCYEES OF THE DEPARTMENT GF WATERWORKS AND �
SEWAGE, AIVILNDING SECTION 2-308 OF THE CODE CF THE CITY CF SALINA,
KANSAS, 1960, AND REPEALING S,1ID ORIGIN:°,L SECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY CF THE CITY CF SALIN.'.,
K A N SA S :
Section 1. 2-308. The Department of Waterworks and -ewage is+
created for the administration of affairs relative to the opera-
tion of the City Waterworks, Sewage Disposal. System and Sanitary
Sewage Collection System.
Section. 2. The Director of Utilities, under the supervision

of the City Manager, shall be responsible for and have general
supervision over the Waterworks and Sewage !�tystem of the City of
Salina, Kansas, and all property connected therewith. He shall
be responsible for seeing that accurate da.il.y records are kept by
al.l departments under his supervision and shall submit monthly
and annual reports concerning the operation of these departments
to the City Manager. He shall see that all equipment of said
Waterworks and Sewage System is maintained in a good condition and
be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the same.
He shall have the immediate control and management of and generally!
supervise the Superintendent of the Waterworks, the office {
manager of the department of Waterworks and Sewage, the Superinten-i
dent of Sewage Disposal and Superintendent of the Sanitary Sewage
Collection System.
Section 3. The Superintendent of the Waterworks, under the
direction of the Director of Utilities, shall be responsible for
the management, control and operation of the City's Waterworks
,Department. He shall make periodic inspections of the waterworks
;equipment and see that the same is maintained in a good state of
repair. He shall be responsible for the supply, treatment and
distribution of water throughout the Waterworks System and shall
!have the immediate control and management of all the employees in
!said department, He shall keep daily records of the operation of
!said department and make monthly and annual reports to the
!Director of Utilities.
Section 4. The office manager of the Department of Waterworks
and Sewage,under the direction of the Director of Utilities, shall
be responsible for the collection of all revenue due to the
Department of Waterworks and Sewage and generally supervise and
manage all office personnel in said department. He shall keep
accurate daily records of the operations of the department and
submit monthly and annual reports to the Director of Utilities.
Section 5. The :superintendent of Sewage Disposal, under the
direction of the Director of Utilities, shall be responsible for

the operation, management and control of the -Sewage Treatment Flant
.of the City of Salina, Kansas, and shall supervise the work rif all
!employees of said department. He shall be responsible for all
(property and equipment of the Salina Sewage Treatment Plant and
shall regularly inspect the same and see that it is maintained in
a good state of repair. IIe shall be responsible for the proper
itreatment and disposal of sewage. fie shall keep accurate daily
records and make monthly and annual reports of the operations
jthereof to the Director of Utilities.

Section 6. Tl,e Superintendent of the Sanitary Sewage
Collection System, under the direction of the Director of
Utilities, shall be responsible for the operation, management and
control of all sanitary sewer mains and laterals, sewage pump
stations and all property connected therewith, and shall have the
immediate supervision of the employees of said department. he
shall make regular inEpections of all equipment of the Sanitary
Sewage Collection System and see that it is kept in a good state
of repair. He shall be responsible for the cleaning of all
sanitary sewer mains and laterals. He shall keep accurate daily
records of the operations of this department and make regular
monthly and annual reports to the Director of Utilities.
Section 7. Section 2-308 of The Code of the City of Salina,
Kansas, 1960, is hereby repealed.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after its publication in the afficial City paper.
