A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A GRANT TO U.S.D. #305 TO
SUPPLEMENT FUNDING FOR ITS DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND
INTERVENTION PROGRAM FOR THE 1994-1995 SCHOOL YEAR.
WHEREAS, the Unified School District No. 305 (U . S . D . #305) II
conducts a Drug Abuse Prevention and Intervention Program (the "Program")
including classroom instruction, parent education and staff/student training
for its elementary and secondary students; and
WHEREAS, U. S. D. #305 budget constraints for school year
1994-1995 have required a reduction in staffing for the Program unless funding
from alternative sources can be identified; and
WHEREAS, a significant number of cases handled by the City's
Municipal Court are a direct result of drug and alcohol abuse; and
WHEREAS, the public health, safety, and welfare of the City of
Salina will be served by the City providing U.S.D. #305 with a grant of
$47,200 to allow for full implementation of the Program for secondary and
middle school students during the 1994-1995 school year; SO NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
Section 1. That the City of Salina hereby grants to U.S.D. #305
the sum of $47,200 from Municipal Court revenues for its use in implementing
the Drug Abuse Prevention and intervention Program for secondary and middle
school students during the 1994-1995 school year.
Section 2. That as a condition of receiving
the
grant authorized
in Section 1 above, U.S.D. #305
agrees to provide reports to
the City Manager
regarding student participation,
program results, and
any
other information
requested to allow the City to review the effectiveness of
the
program.
Section 3. That this
Resolution shall be in
full
force and effect
from and after its adoption.
