AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF BEES WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF SALINA WITHOUT FIRST
OBTAINING A SPECIAL PERMIT THEREFOR; PROVIDING THE PROCEDURE FOR THE IS$UANCE AND REVOCATION
OF SUCH PERMIT AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. That the Salina Code is hereby amended by adding a section to be
numbered Section 23-166 which section shall read as follows:
Section 23-166. Keeping Bees within City; Permit Required.
It shall be unlawful for any person, either as owner or
as agent, representative, employee or bailee of any owner, to
keep or harbor any bees within the limits of the City of 'Salina
without having first obtained a special permit therefor from the
Board of Commissioners. Any person desiring to obtain a permit
to keep bees within the city limits shall file an application
with the City Clerk who shall refer the same to the health
officer. The health officer shall investigate the proposed
premises and file his written report and recommendationsiwith
the Board of Commissioners. After receiving the report from the
health officer, the Board of Commissioners may grant the applicant
permission to keep bees upon his premises within the city limits
upon such terms and conditions as it may specify. Any permit
granted by the Board of Commissioners hereunder shall be subject
to revocation in the event said applicant shall fail to comply
with the terms and conditions of said special permit or if the
keeping of said bees becomes a nuisance, health hazard or detrimental
to the general welfare of the residents of the city.

Section 2. Any person who shall violate the provisions of thi',s ordinance shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to the penalties provided for in Section 1-8 of The Salina
Code.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
adoption and publication in the official city newspaper; provided howeveir, that the persons
keeping or harboring bees within the city limits on the effective date of this ordinance shall
have sixty days from the date of publication to file their application and secure a special
permit therefor.
