2004 ANNUAL REPORT
The Salina Public Library Board met twelve times during 2004. The Board has a
program of on-going orientation where after initial orientation, they continue to
receive background reports from the Director and staff. The Director also sends
articles from library literature for their information.
The major accomplishment for the Board and Library in 2004 was the start of
construction for a small expansion. The work adds more room for books, and a
designated area for Technology access by the public. The public uses computers at
the library for Internet access nearly 4,000 times each month. Additional storage
space was also built. Construction was expected to take 9 months and will be
complete in early spring 2005.
Other accomplishments in 2004 were:
. Circulation of 534,049 items to all ages.
. Addition of over 14,000 new items to the library collection.
. Continued to co-sponsor the Storytelling Stage and the annual Spring Poetry
Reading Series with the Salina Arts & Humanities Commission.
. The Friends of the Library awarded 3 scholarships to teen volunteers.
. The Friends sponsor free rides to the library via the OCCK buses.
. Implemented a Library Ambassadors program to take info to area
organizations.
. Youth Services expanded their outreach efforts with weekly visits to the
Summer School program ofUSD#305, as well as regular visits to child care
centers.
. Received another clean financial audit from Varney & Associates.
. Formed a study committee to consider taking on the Community Learning &
Skill Sharing (CLASS) program.
. Reviewed and updated library policy.
