A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE
ANY NECESSARY ACTION TO SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF RESTRUCTURING OF
CABLE TELEVISION TIERS.
WHEREAS, Communication Services, Inc. d/b/a TCI of Kansas currently holds
a cable television franchise agreement with the city of Salina; and
WHEREAS, effective June 1, 1995, TCI is planning on giving its customers in
Salina more choice and control of their Basic cable television service by offering a lower-priced option;
and
WHEREAS, TCI plans to restructure its current Basic Service into two levels
of service: Basic, with 21 channels for approximately $8.72 per month; and, Expanded Basic, with the
remaining 30 channels for approximately an additional $13.66 per month; and
WHEREAS, TCI plans to offer these two new levels of service on an opt -out
basis, with no downgrade fee for a full 90 -day no fee grace period; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes such a change is in the public
interest and should be implemented as proposed at the earliest possible date.
SO NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas.
Section 1. The city of Salina endorses the restructuring plan proposed by TCI
of Kansas, including the offering of the service option on an opt -out basis.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized and directed to take all such
appropriate actions as are necessary to support implementation of this restructuring, including
communication with state or federal officials.
Adopted by the Board of Commissioners and signed by the Mayor this 3rd day
of April 1995.
