Call to Order
The meeting of the Salina Public Library Board was called to order at 7:00 a.m.by Brendan Burke.

BOARD TRAINING
OrangeBoy -Email Marketing
Amy updated the board on the features of the library’s new email marketing software.
Discussion/Action
Discussion -Director Report
●There is a water leak in the sprinkler system that caused an increase in water bill
●Pestingter has made a variety of repairs to the library’s HVAC system,and we are waiting on parts for
additional repairs
●Costs on the accounting line have increased to add automatic uploads features,and due to costs
increases for BambooHR and the audit
●Courier has had staffing issues which has affected delivery of interlibrary loan.
●Hoopla has maxed out repeatedly this summer so additional funding is being added to that service
●Over 17,000 books have been read for summer reading;cardholders have increased this summer
●Staff are working on school card holders maintenance and we expect to add USD 307 students this
fall.
●More people have been in the building and there have been more security incidents
●The Sandzen artwork has been collected for auction;the auction will occur in October
●Work on RFID door access has begun
●The seed library is ending its third year;we gave away over 12,000,double the total from last year
●The Adult Summer Party will be Aug.4
●Stefanie and Ben have been doing jail outreach over the summer and they have completed training to
offer programs in the fall
●State Library Board voted to amend the CKLS plan to provide $30,000 in Process funding to SPL in
2024.
●Jeremy has started in the maintenance position
●The elevator repair is still scheduled for spring 2024.
●We will offer Educational Eats in the next few weeks to teachers of all types in the community.
Currently 32 are signed up.The program teaches them about library services and develops
connections with staff.Eventually this will be extended to other community members.
2024 Budget Discussion/Recommendations
The board had no questions
Youth Services Remodel
-Hutton is working on updates to plan and will have budget numbers in August
-Allyson is working on revitalizing capital campaign committee to start again in September

To approve providing notice to the Saline County Clerk of the Salina Public Library’s intent to exceed the revenue
neutral rate as presented.

Motion passed unanimously.
●Youth Services Remodel -Naming Rights -Earl Bane Early Literacy Play Area
The board discussed how the name would be displayed.Brendan suggested the library make sure to have
control over font and size and to see if Hutton will include the name in renderings.

To approve naming the play area with the youth services remodel as the “Earl Bane Early Literacy Play Area”as
presented.

Brendan welcomed new member Gloria Woods
Crystal mentioned that she met with Allyson Walker,Head of Fundraising and Development,to discuss her role and
the Salina community.
Helen expressed appreciation for the upcoming event emails and suggested the library find a Tai Chi instructor
Gloria requested emails on new items at the library and there was discussion on how to sign up to receive these
emails.
Brendan suggested that school library cards be offered to the Bennington and Tescott school districts as students
from Saline County attend those schools as well.
