Tax funding covers a portion of our expenses but as we embark on more projects to
serve our community,we depend upon generous individuals and businesses within
Saline County.

National Library Week -Modern Woodmen match $2500
Summer Kickoff -May 19th:5-7 PM
There will be prizes for all ages,games and food.Prize drawings will take place at 6:30 p.m.and patrons must be
present to win.
Staff Training
On April 19th we held a staff training half day.The morning started with
watching and discussion of Ryan Dowd’s homeless training videos.To
learn more about our community Salina Housing Authority,Suzanne
Smith presented to staff.Programming,recording books read,the
summer kickoff,summer parties,learning packets and all things summer
were reviewed.Security review was done regarding fire evacuation and
EMPAC,our new EAP,provided a short training session on what they can
provide for staff members and how to create an account with them.
Future staff trainings are scheduled for October 9th and November 10th.

Excel Adult High School
Excel Adult High School is a 21.5 credit online high school completion program that allows public libraries to offer
accredited high school diplomas to adults who wish to prepare for entry into the workforce,further their career,or
attend college.

Library of Things
We have added a few more items to the Library of Things based on what patrons told us they wanted to borrow.
There is a crochet hook set,a set of knitting needles,and a wall stud finder.

Youth Programming
For Teens'Kitchen the teens made candy sushi!We decided to turn it into a
competition and they had so much fun.Here's our 4 winners!They enjoyed making
them almost as much as eating them!

Adult Programming
The Professional Development Event on April 20 was attended by 40
community members from a wide-variety of businesses and organizations.
Highlights included lunch from Mcalister's Deli and a presentation by Dennis
Clary from the Kansas Leadership Center on the book When Everyone Leads the
Toughest Challenges Get Seen and Solved
by Ed O’Malley and Julia Fabris McBride.

Repairing the books
What materials do you enjoy checking out from the Library?
Lots of non-fiction about trees and plants.I’ve been interlibrary loaning a lot of
language learning books,too.
What do you enjoy most about the community we serve?
They seem genuinely appreciative of the unique things that we offer.Everyone knows
about books,but when we mention anything outside the standard they always say “oh,
that’s a great idea.”
Are you a member or a part of any organizations/groups in the Salina area?
I play in tabletop gaming groups and occasionally participate in poetry readings at Ad Astra as well as supporting ad
astra’s live events.
What is one thing you think everyone should know about the Library?
We have a lot more than you think we do.Non-traditional items including telescopes and board games can be taken
home,but we also have a 3D printer,rosetta stone language tools and gaming consoles that can be utilized in
building
