Discussion/Action
Discussion - Director Report
●Katie Zey has created a QR code for the Library to use for donations.
●We are going to participate in Match Madness again this year.
●In patron feedback, it was mentioned how Emilio helped a patron with Salina resources. As a Library we try
to help patrons with Salina resources.
●We have started on our new strategic plan this year and have already completed some items.
○Amy Adams and Katie Zey have created an annual marketing plan.
●The Salina Reads event kicked off last Saturday along with the Friends book sale. The Mad Science programs
for youth were successful and many positive comments were received.
●Staff training was held yesterday. Library services, security and upcoming work plans were discussed. Staff
are provided access to Cy Wakeman’s virtual reality based training and homelessness/crisis training by Ryan
Dowd. DVACK and the Emergency Food Bank also came and gave presentations to increase staff
awareness of Salina resources.
●We are reviewing our automated communications.
●We will be painting in the Prescott Room & Processing backroom as well as finish up some small projects in
those areas.
●Several projects are being considered: RFID door locks, the phone system and intercom system. The
intercom system we have currently is very outdated and cannot be heard in several areas in the library. It has
only 1 location where announcements can be made. Emilio is also getting quotes on repairing the loading
dock door.
●We installed new holds shelves as well as new and popular book shelves. These shelves are lower in height
and are mobile.
●We continue to fundraise for the Youth Services remodel. Amy is writing a matching grant. If we raise four
million they will grant one million.
●Melanie offered suggestions to the Board on the ways they can engage.
●Melanie is working on the state library and CKLS reports. A new question on the state library report is asking
how much we would like to receive in 2025.
●We are getting quotes for snow removal.
●One of our pumps is not working on our boiler. Pestinger is providing help with that.
●We had a 1st Amendment audit last week.
Discussion - Other
●Donations - Melanie received estimates on the items we are going to donate and the board said to continue
to move forward as voted upon last month.
●Review 2022 Budget & 2022 Statistics. We ended the year with transferring $200,000 to the Capital
Improvement Fund. Melanie went over some explanations of the Revenue and Expenditure report. Our stats
continue to increase.
●Review: Board Bylaws & Board Orientation
●Review: CKLS funds & Board Requirements - CKLS has a requirement for Board training. Melanie asked the
Board if they had any specific areas for training that they were interested in.
●Saline County Workforce Update - Job listings continue to be around 2500. Unemployment is low. Melanie
went over information provided by the Salina Chamber of Commerce on why it’s so hard to hire right now as
well as all that the Library has done in the past year for hiring.

We want to clarify how benefits would be handled for reduced hours for employees. Discussion was held by
