Youth Programming
Preschool Playtime was so much fun this month. We created a pizzeria with eat in or delivery options. The kids were
able to use those fine motor skills by making felt pizza complete with all the toppings, practice early literacy skills by
taking orders and counting change and by delivering pizza to library staff. - Heather Mettlen, Youth Services
Programmer
Youth Services is getting out into the community. Heather took her Magic Tree Book Club to Haven Academy, a
homeschool group. The kids read Warriors in Winter beforehand, which takes place in ancient Rome. We discussed
the book, what life was like for kids in Roman times and then made Roman mosaics. - Heather Mettlen, Youth
Services

Patron/Community Feedback

I received multiple compliments from patrons on the new bookshelves in the new book area.
-submitted by Ashley Will, Information Services Librarian
A patron thanked me for showing her Hoopla and how to use it a couple years ago saying that she has been using it
a lot ever since for audiobooks and finds a lot on there that she is interested in, more often than Overdrive.

“First and foremost, thank you for your support through the book
donations that you have provided us.
Many of the men have benefited through those books in gaining job
skills and experience while in our care, your donation has prepared
them to go back into the workforce when ready.”
Cesar Castellanos, Union Rescue Mission
-email received by Melanie Hedgespeth, Director
Weeded materials are provided to numerous entities. This specific
group schedules a pickup periodically. From their website: Our
NewLeaf Book Mercantile turns donated books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl
albums into jobs for the unemployed, meals for the hungry and life
changing services. A used book can open a new chapter in a man’s
life. NewLeaf repurposes everything they can and recycles the rest.
(In regards to the Attack of the Space Pirates Escape Room) “This was my first ever escape room; I hadn't, yet, done
even an escape room in a box before. I think that this escape room is well put together, very well-presented, and I
was just too slow, this go-'round.
“I had a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the next one, hoping that there will be another one.” -Brandon B
