Support Your Community
Tax funding covers a portion of our expenses but as we embark on more projects to
serve our community, we depend upon generous individuals and businesses within
Saline County.

The Library will participate in Match Madness through the Greater Salina
Community Foundation in March.
Adult Programming
The Adult Lego Club had participants for the first time this
December! We had four people join us, including two of our
own Circulation Staff Members, Kandy and Neva. It was a fun
relaxing hour of creative building and hopefully a great way
to destress!
Youth Programming
We hosted a Noon Years Eve party down in youth services for our littles who
can’t stay up until midnight. We read a party theme story, made 2023 crowns,
had a balloon drop at noon, ate cookies and had a dance party. Everyone had
a blast and the parents said it was even fun for them. - Heather Mettlen, Youth
Program Coordinator

The Noon Years Eve party was a great event. We loved how low key it was and how it still had some educational
elements. We will come back next year. - Beau’s mom
We don’t usually make it to library events but we will definitely be back - Patron at Noon Years Eve event
Library Patron Feedback provided by Heather Mettlen, Youth Program Coordinator
Emilio Rivas, Head of Security, assisted a patron with resources available in Salina to seek shelter and food as well as
a bus pass. The patron was very grateful and surprised by the help she received.

Staff Spotlight
Ashley Will
Department: Information Services
Job Title: Librarian
How many years have you worked at the Library?
I have worked at Salina Public Library for 6 years as of January 2023, moving to
Salina, Kansas, from Rock Springs, Wyoming, for this job as soon as I graduated
with my master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University with the
Utah cohort.
What is your favorite part of your job at the Library?
My favorite part of my job is helping people find whatever it is they want, such
as an article in a specific issue of a magazine with our access to databases; books to read when they have specific
requests or ask me for recommendations of what to read next; local history research; particular recipes; and anything
else!
What materials do you enjoy checking out from the Library?
I enjoy checking out a variety of books for the online Branching Out Book Club
https://www.instagram.com/branchingout_bookclub/to discuss with other avid readers from all over the world on
Discord, especially if they are my favorite genres of science fiction and fantasy.
What do you enjoy most about the community we serve?
What I enjoy most about the community we serve is that there is seemingly always something going on, especially if
you are interested in art and music, often needing to choose between multiple options for something to do when you
want to do something fun.
Are you a member or a part of any organizations/groups in the Salina area?
Salina Area Young Professionals; Friends of Salina Animal Shelter board member; Friends of the Smoky Hill Museum
Board of Directors member; Saline County Democrats; and Big of Big Brothers Big Sisters
What is one thing you think everyone should know about the Library?
I think everyone should know that the library is not just for kids! Oftentimes adults tell me that they haven’t been into
the library since they were children or when their kids were little, but there is so much offered for adults too, such as a
variety of programming like multiple book discussion groups and anime screenings.
