Director ReportDirector Report Summer Reading 2022 11,229 items were read and submitted for the 2022 Summer Reading Program. Youth read the most items totalling 9607! Collections VolunTEENS Our summer VolunTEENs have logged 575 hours of volunteering over the course of the summer. They’ve helped with a variety of shelving procedures, assisted at youth programs, worked on special projects, and learned a great deal about how public libraries operate during the busiest season of the year. Tinker Tots Tinker Tots is a STEM program for 3-5 year olds and recently we had fun with watermelon. We talked about the life cycle of watermelon and then used our 5 senses to look, smell, taste and touch watermelon. Tons of messy fun! -Heather Mettlen, Youth Services Program Coordinator Comic Con Information Services Staff hosted a table at Salina Comic Con on July 16-17 at Tony’s Event Center. Salina Public Library swag was provided as well as lots of other fun freebies from Libby and Hoopla. Hoopla even provided an Amazon Fire for SPL to give away! Staff logged 279 interactions over the course of the two days, and issued six new library cards and renewed two more. -Stefanie Knopp, Head of Information Services Author Speakers Consortium The Library Speakers Consortium held its first two Virtual Author talks in July and provided our patrons the opportunity to connect with best selling authors such as Alka Joshi (author of The Henna Artist) and David Allen (author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress Free Productivity). In the future, we hope to feature more of these author talks as hybrid programs, allowing patrons to choose whether or not to view the talk in person at the library, or from home, at a time that works for their schedule. -Ben Johnson,Information Services August & September Calendar August 2 - McKenzie Center - Primary Election Voting Location August 17 - Staff Training Day - Library Closed September 5 - Labor Day - Library Closed view library events online Google Reviews Comment - Adult Summer Reading Party - Information Services Department Provided to Stefanie Knopp - Head of Information Services Thank you to you and your staff for the enjoyable evening at Martinelli's. Your efforts to encourage reading and use of library resources is outstanding. I truly appreciate all that the whole staff does to assist. Salina has the best library in the state!!! I met some new ladies, enjoyed some delicious food and was so excited to win one of the door prizes. Thank you for encouraging me to come. Next summer I hope to be a better participant by sending in what I've read and even reading more. This past year has been hectic in so many ways but I am hoping the coming year allows time for such luxuries as reading, taking library classes, etc. Blessings on all of you!
