MINUTESMinutes of the Library Board Meeting 1274 The meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on June 21, 2022, in the Prescott Room. The following Board members were present: Brendan Burke, Judy Nold, Susan Kelly, Gerry Cox, Dr. Trent Davis, and Helen Gregg. Others present were Melanie Hedgespeth, Amy Adams, Dustin Cumberland, Stefanie Knopp and Sandy Wilcox. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None CONSENT AGENDA: a.Action Items i.Minutes of the May 17, 2022 library board meeting b.Informational Items i.Financial Reports ii.Statistical Reports 22-24 On a motion made by Brendan Burke and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the consent agenda. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1274. 06/21/2022. DISCUSSION/ACTION DIRECTORS REPORT : We are now members of the Speakers Consortium at the cost of $4500 per year which gives us access to author presentations for our community. Summer reading is going well so far this year. Amy Adams organized the poetry section at the River Festival. We have a new Salina Public Library library mobile app available. We also continue to work on school connections and partnerships. Amy is working with Salina Family Healthcare to come do health screenings twice per month. Amy is continuing to work on the capital funding campaign. CKLS has their 2023 proposed budget. Storage shed: Dustin spoke to the board explaining the type of storage shed we would like to purchase for the library. The cost is a bit more than we thought but still remains within the budgeted amount for capital improvements. 1275 Duct Cleaning: We have received pricing on duct cleaning. The estimate came in at $21,400.00. Our plan would be to schedule this to be done sometime in October. It was suggested to see if we could get any other estimates. 22-25 On a motion made by Gerry Cox and seconded by Brendon Burke , it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the scheduling of the duct cleaning with a cost up to $25,000. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1275. 06/21/2022. 2023 Budget: Melanie went over proposed budget figures with the Board. She went over the budget time table. We continue to work on hiring and employee retention. After additional discussion, a recommendation was made to increase the cost of living in the budget and provide further information at the July meeting. 22-26 On a motion made by Brendon Burke and seconded by Helen Gregg, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves to update the 2023 draft budget with a 4% cost of living with adjusting the capital line. EXECUTIVE SESSION: NEW BUSINESS & BOARD COMMENTS: Helen Gregg had a question about the speakers consortium as to whether or not we can try to improve accessibility for live viewing events for patrons in the future.
