08-22-1938 Minutes343 C0194ISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. COMMISSIONERS ROOM, SALINA, KANSAS. AUGUST 22, 1938. Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners August 22, 1938. Meeting was called to order by M I Mayor orgenstern, the roll was called and Commissioners Morgenstern, Branson, Ferm, Jackson and lu it- chell and City Attorney Norris responded. The minutes of the Regular 1,11eeting of August 15, 1938 were read and approved as read. A petition was presented asking for the installation of a stop sign at the intersection of Ninth Jtreet and Iron Avenue. Same was ordered filed. Pursuant to notice published in the Salina Journal bids were received for the repair and reconstruction of certain portions of sewer in Ash Street, and of a certain portion of the sewage flow line con- necting the sewage pumping station at the terminus of Ash Street sewer and the sewage disposal plant, as follows: San -Ore Construction Company, McPherson, Kansas. H. J. Taylor Construction Company, Salina, Kansas. Johnson Bros. Construction Company, Salina, Kansas. City Engineers estimate of cost for the above named work was read. An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance making a levy of taxes for general revenue and other purposes by the City of Salina, Kansas for the year 1939.1' On motion of Commissioner Mitchell the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: ``orgenstern, Branson, Ferm. Jackson and Kitchell (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the cr dinance and it is nur:bered 4902. The following application for Cereal Malt Beverage License was presented: GENERAL RETAILER CLASS "'A" IDIDIVIDUAL Application No. Name of Applicant Name & Location of Place of Business Maxine Nilson Art's Cafe 505 North Ninth Street Commissioner Ferm moved that application be approved by the Board of Commissioners and that the City Clerk be instructed to issue license to said applicant. Motion adopted. Application for taxicab license for the balance of 1938 received as follows: Name of Owner Name of Operator Cab No. E. J. Swenson Deluxe Cab Company 29 Bids were tabulated by the City Engineer. Commissioner Ferm moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Construction Company, the lowest, responsible bidder, as per bid sub- mitted, and that certified checks be returned by the City Clerk to the unsuccessful bidders. lotion adopted. A resolution was introduced entitled: "A Resolution relating to N. Y. A. Project Number 3477.' On motion of Commissioner Branson the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Morgenstern, Branson, Ferm.Jackson and Mitchell (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and it is numbered 733. The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 93 Resolution Book Number 3. Motion adopted. { Commissioner Jackson moved that taxicab license No. 11 issued to R. Edgar Collins be cancelled on account of insurance having expired. L=otion adopted. Commissioner Branson moved that the City Engineer make a survey of the sewer system on East Iron Avenue. ! R. A. Rearwin submitted a deed, executed by Mausoleum Builders Corporation for crypts 176, 4770 576 and 577 in Hillcrest Memorial Mausoleum, together with a check for $375.00 to the City of Salina, in payment of the ten percent of list price of said crypts dr 0150.00 f 6 permanert endowment fund., and anadditional fifteen percent or $225,00 due to the City, to be applied to said permanent endowment fund under agreement dated January 8, 1931 and credited to the note of the Mauso- leum Builders Corporation, the list price of said crypts being $400.00 each for No. 476 and 477, and $350.00 each for No. 576 and 577. On motion of Commissioner Jackson the check was accepted and credited as above set forth, and the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute and deliver said deed to R. A. Rearwin. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and gradingEdi hth Street from the north line of Pacific Avenue to the north line of Harsh Street." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and grading Delaware Avenue ! from the south line of Iron Avenue to the south line of Johnstown venue."' Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing,'guttering and grading Merrill Street j from the south line of Crawford Avenue to the south line of ReTubri—c Avenue." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and grading Johnstown Avenue from the east line of Columbia Avenue to the east line or— an Ksas —anKsas Avenue." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and grading Oakdale Avenue from the south line of Johnstown Avenue to the south line of Ash reet." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and grading Kansas Avenue from the south line of Iron Avenue to the north line of Gypsum venue. Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relating to the curbing, guttering and grading Tenth Street from the north line of Frost Street to the north line of Franklin Street." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
