Youth Programs
During Storytime about bears, I set up a Bear Hunt through the youth department. We recited the book while
walking around and when we came upon the station the kids “couldn’t go over them, couldn’t go under
them, so they just had to go through them”. It was so fun and many kids came back Thursday to do Storytime
all over again! -Heather Mettlen, Youth Services Programs Coordinator

The Youth Services staff have been busy preparing for our first “normal” summer since 2019! We
have noticed an increase in the number of families visiting the lower level this spring, and we’re
anticipating a great response from the public as we roll out Summer at the Library 2022.
In addition to our yearly programs, such as Brainy Babies and Storytime, we are excited to offer several new
and returning programs this summer. Bookworms and Waterbugs is a series of storytimes that will take place
at the three different splash pads around Salina. Cookies and Canvas and Parachute Play will be back again
this summer for preschoolers, while our VolunTEEN program is making a comeback for middle and high
school students. 24 VolunTEENs will help us with programming, shelf organization, and shelving. We’re also
bringing back the Teen Advisory Board to help guide our decisions about the future of teen programming.
Each of our talented staff members champions literacy and learning in unique ways, and we are proud of the
work we do to serve the community!
