FEBRUARY 4, 1937.
Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners February 4,
1937. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Peters, the roll was
called and Commissioners Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgenstern and
Surface and City Attorney Norris responded.
Bids for curb, gutter, recurbing and reguttering and paving
i and grading improvements on:
Phillips Street from Charles Street to Crawford Avenue;
nirwin Avenue from Ninth Street to Highland Avenue; I
Oakdale Avenue from Elm Street to a point 550 feet
north of Elm Street;
Connecticut Avenue from Iron Avenue to Johnstown Avenue;
Eleventh Street from Frost Street to Republic Avenue; j
Eighth Street from Ash Street to Iron kvenue*
Eighth Street from iron avenue to Walnut Street;
Unpaved portion of Ninth Street from Jewell Street to Cloud
Were received from:
H.J.Tavlor Construction Company, Salina, Kansas,
Johnsdn Bros. Construction Company, Salina, Kansas.
City Engineers estimate of cost was read.
On tabulation of bids it appeared that the bids received
were higher than the Engineers estimate.
Moved by Commissioner Surface that the bids be rejected and
the certified checks be returned to the bidders, and that no bids
having been received for the construction of such work within the
Engineers estimate, that the work be done and constructed by the
City and that the City Engineer be authorized and directed to construct
all of the improvements above provided for, such work to be done
within the City Engineors estimate and that the City Engineer be
authorized to purchase such materials, equipment, tools and apparatus,
and to hire such labor as may be necessary to construct such work.
