$90 for the free-throw competition. We are still waiting to hear what our final match amount will be. Library
staff also spoke with about 35 community members at the booth event at the Fieldhouse.
Adopt a Shelf Volunteer Program
https://salinapubliclibrary.org/support/volunteer-opportunities/adopt-a-shelf/
Adopt a Shelf is a volunteer opportunity designed to ensure library materials are in order. With hundreds of
thousands of physical items in our collection, it is important we have items in the correct spot for patrons to
find materials. Our staff work diligently to put items back when they are returned in the proper place but they
do get moved and laid in other areas of the library. When everything is in its proper place everyone can find
what they need!
Volunteers donate time to keep one section of the
library neat and orderly by adopting a section. We
try to match volunteers with their favorite topic
area! 2-3 hours a month the volunteer spends time
checking that their section is in order. Schedules
are flexible and are set by the volunteer(s).
Families, individuals and organizations are
welcome to adopt a shelf. Volunteers will have
their organization, family name or individual name
noted by the shelf they have adopted.
Responsibilities
●File items on the shelf in proper order.
●Arrange items neatly on the shelf pulling them forward as necessary.
●Dust shelves as needed.
●Remove items out of place and provide them to a staff member or reshelve them.
●Record volunteer time in the log provided.
*Staff assistance is available for help.
Magic Treehouse Book Club
Magic Treehouse Book Club read The Knight at Dawn this month and our
extension activity was to make clay dragon eyes. The kids were so creative
and really loved this activity. - Heather Mettlen, Program Coordinator
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
We have over 100 kids participating in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten and already
have had 3 finishers. When they finish the child receives a finishers tshirt and gets their
picture on our “Hall of Fame”. Our most recent finishers are Zion and his sister Naomi.
Their favorite books they read were “Bear Sleeps On” and “The Belly Button Book”.

Comments
“I just wanted to say thank you for all that your youth library staff does. I have always found them to be helpful
in locating books and giving ideas. Heather is particularly great and says hi to my daughter by name. We are
grateful for the library and its youth programs.”-Josh H.
