j Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners August 10,
1936. Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Surface, the
roll was called and Commissioners Surface, Jackson and Morgenstern
and City Attorney Norris responded. Commissioners Peters and Mit-
chell absent.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 1, 1936 were
read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Commissioner Jackson the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Surface, Jackson and Morgen-
stern (3) Nays: 0) Commissioners Peters and Mitchell absent.
Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4666.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
*An ordinance levying special assessments against certain property
to pay the cost of cutting weeds on certain lots and parts of lots,
and parkways abutting thereon in the City of Salina,, Same was
referred to the Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to certain easements heretofore acquired by the
City of Salina, Kansas, by condemnation for sanitary sewers and
water mains." Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
The following report was received from the City Manning

Dear Mr. Banker:
The City Planning and Zoning Com-
mission, in special session in the Chamber of
Commerce rooms, 5:00 P. M. August 7, 1936, con-
sidered the recommendations for the rezoning
of Block 12, Calkins Addition room "CO Commer-
cial to "D"" light industrial and also described
Lots and Blocks in Pacific and North nark Addi-
tions.,
In considering the proposed recommended
rezoning the commission, by unanimous vote of
members present, recommended the rezoning of
Block 12, Calkins Addition, from eC* Commercial
to "DO light industrial,
in the consideration of rezoning
from "Att resident district to "C" Commercial
district of Blocks and Lots as described in Pacif-
ic and North Park Additions, as recommended, the
commission withheld action until such time as
additional information could be received from
A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A
resolution relating to the proceedings for the condemnation of land
for US No. 81 Bypass*" Same was referred to the Board of Commis-
sioners.
A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled:
IIA Resolution relating to and providing for the appropriation and
condemnation of certain property in the City of Salina, 1'ansas, for
the purpbse:of opening, widening and extending certain public streets
and highways in said City, and for making certain channel changes in
Dry Creek necessarily incidental thereto, and for other public purposes;
designating a Benefit District and providing for the appointment of
commissioners to make an appraisement and to assess damages and
benefits on account of such appropriation and condemnation.fz Same
was referred to the Board of Commissioners.

It is understood that a benefit district
is to be made of the blocks and lots of the addi-
tions mentioned and that the City Engineer is
now preparing this data. Just ads soon as this
information is ready the City lanning and Zon-
ing Commission will -have a special meeting to I
consider the recommendations from the Mayor and
City Commissioners in connection with this re-
zoning.

On motion of Commissioner Morgenstern report was accepted I,
by the Board of Commissioners, and the City Clerk was instructed to
publish notice providing for such rezoning.

On motion of Commissioner Jackson applications were approved
by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.
Application for taxicab drivers license received from:
Jim Johnson
E. K. Rowson
Commissioner Jackson moved that applications be approved
by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.
A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled:
"A Resolution relating to the recurbing and reguttering and the
paving of a portion of Eighth Street from the south line of Iron
Avenue to the north line of Walnut Street." Same was referred to
the Board of Commissioners.
The matter of rezoning.Lots 1,2,3,4,5 6 7 and 8, Block 13,
Pacific Addition from "A" Residence District to 'SDA Light Industrial
District, and changing Lot 3 on Walnut Street in School Park from
"B" Residence to "C" Commercial District was taken up by the Board of
Commissioners. There being no objection to such changes same were
granted by the Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
*An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 3188 .adopted November 23, 1925, i
as amended, being an ordinance dividing the City or Galina into zones
or districts and regulating and restricting the location of trades,
industries etc., and the uses of land with each of such zones or
districts.' Same was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Morgenstern moved that the balance of the fine
assessed against Alfred C. Anderson be remitted. Motion adopted. i
On motion of Commissioner Jackson the Board of Commission-
ers adjourned.

The City Engineer filed a survey and description of the
lands necessary to be appropriated for the opening, widening and
extending of certain streets as provided for in Resolution No. 665,
and on motion of Commissioner Surface the same was approved.
