04-06-1936 MinutesF1 COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. COMMISSIONERS ROOM, SALINA, KANSAS. APRIL 6, 1936. w Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners April 60 1936. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Peters, the roll was called and Commissioners Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgenstern and Surface and Acting City Attorney Roy A. Smith responded. City Attorney Norris absent. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of March 30, 1936 were read and approved as read. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Commissioner Jackson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgen- stern and Surface (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4626. The following claim to be paid from Relief Highway Fund was presented for payment: Chas. E. Banker, City Clerk Cash paid out for labor $326.00 Commissioner Morgenstern moved that claim be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Relief Highway Fund for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Surface the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgen- stern and Surface (4) Nays: (0) Mayor approvedthe ordinance and it is numbered 4627. City Engineer submitted Estimate Number 1 to H. J. Taylor Construction Company for material furnished and labor performed in the construction of Drainage and paving improvements P.W.A. Docket State File No. 1050-R, prior to April 1, 1936. Commissioner Morgen- stern moved that same be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Drainage and Paving Improvements Construction Account Public Works Administration State File No. Kansas 1050 -ft Ac- count for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Morgenstern the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Mor- genstern, and Surface (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4628. City Engineer submitted submitted Estimate Number 1 to Chicago Bridge and Iron Works for the construction of steel elevated water storage tank. Commissioner Mitchell moved that same be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Public Works Administration Docket State File No. 1031 Account for the payment of a certain claim.'t On motion of Commissioner Jackson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgen- stern and Surface (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4629. The following letter in reference to the construction of concrete foundations for steel elevated storage tank Public Works Administration Docket State File No. 1031-R, Contract No. 2, by the Johnson Bros, Construction Company, under contract dated October 28, 1935, was presented from the City Engineer: 2 Salina, Kansas. April 1, 1936. To the Hon. Board of Commissioners, City of Salina, Kansas. Gentlemen: The construction of concrete founda- tions for steel elevated storage tank Public Works Administration Docket State File No. 1031 R, Contract No. 2 by the Johnson Bros, Construction Company, 340 N. Fifth Street, Salina, Kansas, under contract dated October 28, 1935, has been completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. I hereby approve the work done under the above contract and recommend the acceptance of the work, and that the final estimate due the contractor be allowed. Respectfully submitted, (Signed) H. N. Lamme City Engineer. Commissioner Surface moved that City Engineers report be filed and the work accepted by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. City Engineer submitted Final Estimate to Johnson Bros. Con- struction Company for the construction of reinforced concrete founda- tions for steel elevated water storage tank. Commissioner Surface moved that same be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Public Works Administration Docket State File No. 1031 Account for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Morgenstern the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell, Morgenstern and Surface (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordi- nance and it is numbered 4630.. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: OA Resolution granting an extension of time for the completion of a certain contract with Chicago Bridge and Iron Works."' On motion same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A Resolution granting an extension of time for the completion of a certain contract with Johnson Bros, Construction Company". On motion same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. Sign Applications numbered 162, 163, 164, 165 and 166 and 167 were received from Rogers Brothers. Commissioner Surface moved that same be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. Application for license to sell malt and cereal beverages in the City of Salina, Kansas received from: RETAIL CLASS "B" MALT AND CEREAL BEVERAGE DEALERS LICENSE Sadie Griggs, d/b/a Quality Cafe, 143 North Seventh Street Commissioner Surface moved that application be rejected by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. The following communication was received from C. W. Lamer: Salina, Kansas, March 31, 1936 ?ion. Mayor Peters, The City Manager and Councilmen of the city of Salina, Kansas. Gentlemen: I was advised by the Manager Mr. Brown today that you and your Councilmen had decided to let me build the sign that I talked to you about last evening. I want you to know I appreciate your co-operation a lot. When that sign is com- pleted I sincerely hope you will approve of the structure and look upon it as one of the resourceful signs of Salina. Application for license to operate two taxicabs in the City of Salina received from C. C. VonMiller, d/b/a A B C Taxi Service. Commissioner Surface moved that same be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. Applications for taxicab drivers license received as fol - lows : Paul A. Ramsey Harry T. Allen C. C. VonMiller Wm. Mooney Commissioner Surface moved that applications be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. On motion of Commissioner Surface the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
