H egular Meeting of Board of Cormissioners, August 18th,
1924. 1,Ieeting was called to order by Mayor ,Hargett, the roll
w: -as called and Commissioners Hargett, Dyar and Chambers and
City Attorney Norris responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of ' ugust 11th, 1924
were read and approved as read.
The following resolution was introduced:

WHEREAS, The Glestern Star Mill Company of Salina,
Kansas is the owner of the Voest Hdlf of what was formerly platted
and laid out as a part of Third Street in the Citi; of Salina,
Saline County, Kansas being forty feet in width and extending
from Ash Street to the Smoky hill River; and the City desires to
use all that portion thereof north of the buildings of The
4 estern Star 1,,'All Company for the purpose of using it as a ground
upon which to store building materials, machinery and other mater=
ial and utensils of the City of Salina; and it is necessary for
the City to use said ground on account of its centgral location
and proximity to the City Fall of Salina, Kansas; and
I.E EAS, the owner of said real estate is willing to
let and lease the same to the City of Salina for the rental of
Ten Dollars (; 10.00) per annum, NU,I TIIZ����EFOI�E
BE IT RESOLVED By the Board of Commissioners of the
City of Salina, Kansas that that portion of the real esta to
hereinbefore described, and lying north of the buildings of The
Ifestern Star 11ili Company be leased from the said The 'estdrn
Star I -Ti ll Company; and that the I,Iayor of the City of Salina be arra
he is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a written
lease for the use and occupancy of said real estate for the pur-
poses hereinbefore ex.pressedby the City of Salina, Provided
However that nothing herein or in said lease shall be deemed
to waive the right of the City of Salina to re -open as a public
street in the manner provided by law that -nart of said Third
Street heretofore vacated/

On motion of Commissioner.Chambers the resolution was
adopted as read and on its final a doption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes Hargett, Dyar and
Chambers (3) Nays: (0 )
An Ordinance was introduced entitled: ''An ordinance making
appropriations for miscellaneous purposes.
On motion cl' Commissioner Dyar the ordinance ?,,,as read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes : Hargett, Dyar and
Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bored 3017.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance mkaing a levy of taxes for general revenue and
other purposes in the City of Salina, Kansas for the year 1924.1'
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and
Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bered 3018.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance making a special assessment and levy of taxes for
the cutting of weeds on certain lots and parts of lots in the
City of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll
was called and. the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar
and Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 3019.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance providing for the issuance of Improvement Bonds
of the City of Salina, Kansas in the sum of ;;)133,788,37 to pay
the cost of improving certain streets in said City.
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes : Hargett, Dyar
and Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 3020.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled
"An ordinance relating to the construction, ei,ection and main-
tenance of signs in the City of Salina, Kansas, the issuing of
permits therefor, defining certain nuisances, providing pen-
alties for the violation of this ordinance and repealing all
ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith.,
On motion of Commissioner Chambers same was referred to
the Board of Commissioners.
City 14anager Layton submitted a recommendation in refer-
ence to the construction of a Iilunicipal swimming Pool.
Commissioner Dyar moved that recommendation be accepted,
and that the City Engineer submit plans and specifications for
the construction of same. Motion adopted.
A petition was received asking for the construction of a
sidewalk on the north side of Jewell Avenue from the McPherson
Branch Railroad Tracks east to the east line of Lot 14 on
Jewell Avenue. Same was referred to the City Manager.
On motion of Commissioner Dyar, Board of Cornissioners
adjourned.
