SALINA, KANSAS.
JULY 7th, 1924.
Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners July 7th,
1924. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Hargett, the roll
was called and Commissioners Hargett, Dyar and Chambers and
City Attorney Norris responded.
The minutes of the aegular Yee ting of June 30th, 1924
were read and approved as read.
An Ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City
of Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of excavating, grading and
paving all of the unpaved portion of Santa Fe Avenue in said
City, in the center of said Santa Fe A venue as note occupied
by the tracks of the Salina Street ltailway Company from the
south line of Beloit Avenue thence south to Claflin Avenue
therein, and relating to and providing for the collection and
payment of such assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll
was called and the following vote was had- Ayes: Hargett,
Dyar and Chambers (3) Nays (0) The Mayor approved the same
and is numbered 3008.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of
Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing and guttering the
east side of Ninth Street in said City from the south line of
Jewell `venue to the north line of Cloud Street therein, and
relating to and providing for the collection and payment of
such assessments. it
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll
was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett,
Dyar and Chambets (3) Mays: (0) The 141ayor approved the
same and is numbered 3009.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City
of Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, ex-
cavating, grading and paving Claflin Avenue in said ity from
the wrest line of Highland Avenue to the east line of "inth
Street therein, and relating to and providing for the collection
and payment of such assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was
read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption V
roll was called and the following vote was had; yes: argett,
Dyar and Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The l'layor approved the same
and is numbered 3010.
The following resolution was introduced for second read-
ing:
IiIHEREAS, the franchise heretofore granted by the
City of Salina, Kansas to the Salina �'Iater -,.corks Company,
a corporation for supplying grater to said City of Salina and
to the inhabitants thereof has expired, and
''THE'REAS, the Board of CoTmnissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas deem it ne8essary and for the interest of the
City of Salina that said ity acquire, control and operate
the plant belonging to the Salina later '''forks Company and now
used by it in supplying Water as aforesaid, NM7 THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of C ormtis s i one rs of the
City of Salina, Kansas that it is necessary and for the
interest of the City of Salina to acquire and control and to
operate the plant now owned., in the City of Salina, Kansas
by the Salina dater Works Company, a corporation, and now
used by said corporation in furnishing Crater to the City of
Salina and to the inhabitants thereof,aand that said plant be
acquired and purchased by the City of alina in the ?runner
provided by lawn.

On motion of Commissioner Dyar the resolution was adopted
as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the
following vote was had; Ayes. hargett, Dyar and Chambers
(3) Nays: (0)
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance ,ras read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes-: Hargett, Dyar
and Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The I'Tayor approved the same and
is numbered 3011.
Applications for pool hall license from July lst; 1924 to
December 31st, 1924 were received as follows:

On motion of Commissioner Dyar the licenses were granted,
i3ert Holmquist appeared before the Commissioners and asked
permission to operate a Benefit Sh= in Stella Park.
The matter was referred to the City 11anager.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
