Regular I: eeting of the Board of Commissioners May 26th,
1924. Meeting was called to order by IYiayor Hargett, the roll
was called and Commissioners Hargett, Dyar and Chambers and City
Attorney Norris responded.
The minutes of the 1{egular fleeting of May 19th, 1924 were
read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of
Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, excavating,
grading and paving -Elventh Street in said City from the'south line
of i=%orrison Avenue to the north line of dashington Avenue therein,
and relating to and providing for the collection and payment of
such assessments. It
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and Chamb-
ers, (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bered 2981.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of
Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, excavating,
grading and paving Eleventh Street ins aid City __from the north
line of `Jashington venue to the north line of rrescott ii -venue
therein, and relating to and providing for the collection and pay-
ment of such assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final ado tion the roll was called
and the follows vote was had; Ayes: 4rgett, Dyar and Chamb-
ers (3) Nays: (0) The Iayor approved the same and is numbered
2 982 .
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of
Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing guttering, excavating,
grading and pa ving ront Street in said pity from the north line
of Elm Street to the south line of Pine Street therein, and relat-
ing to and providing for the collection and payment of such
assessments. t'
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and Chamb-
ers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is numbered
2983.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special
assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of,
Salina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, excavat-
ing, grading and paving Putnam Avenue in said City from the south
line of South Street to the north line of l'Iorrison Avenue therein,
and relating to and providing for the collection and payment of
such assessments.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and
Chambers (3 ) Nays; (0 ) The 11,11ayor approved the same and is
numbered 2984.
City Engineerts Estimate Number 3 in the amount of N54,543.87
for the paving of certain streets was presented, and on motion
of Commissioner Chambers same was adopted by the Board of Commis-
sioners.
An Ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim.
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted b�,r sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and Chamb-
ers (3) Nays: (0.) The l,ayor approved the same and is numbered
2985.
The following resolution was introduced:
`iHEREAS, heretofore on the 18th day of February, 19244 on
consideration by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Galina,
�''ansas, an ordinance was adopted, approved and published, author-
izing street improvements, as follows:
The excavating, grading, curbing, guttering and paving of
the following streets:
SUNSET DRIVE from the west line of Ninth Street to highland
Circle.
EIGHTH STREET from the north line of Elm Street to the
south line of ine 7treet.

south line of Elm Street.
ELEVENTH STRE✓T from the north line of ''idashington Avenue to

The excavating, grading and paving of all of the unpaved
portion of Santa Fe Avenue in the center of said `3anta Fe Avenue
now occupied by the tracks of the Salina Street Railway Company
from a point tao hundred thirty (230) feet south of South Street
to the north line of Beloit Avenue,
AND, iIIi' REAS P the engineer's preliminary estimate of the
cost of such improvements is 4P'33,080.00.
AND. VIHEREAS , the cost of such improvements is authorized
to be paid for in whole or in part, by the issuance of bonds.
AND, Vliisi�E .� in the contracts heretofore entered into
between C. P. Barrington, the contractor and the City of Salina,
Kansas, it has been provided that payments shall be made to said
contractor in partial estimates in cash or in warrants.
AND, 17HEREAS, the Engineer has now filed reports showing
that there is now due the contractor in addition to the sum
he .-etofore paid in the form of Temporary Notes, the sum of
,54,543.87 on work completed under the above contracts, said
estimates having been approved and accepted by the Board of
Commissioners, said Estimate Number 3 in the amount of ,,549543.87
being for ._X34,490.39 on the improvements.first above described
and J20,053.48 on the improvements last above described.
AND,11-E EAS, under Section 10-123 the Revised `'tatutes of
1'nnsas 1923, proper and full authority is conferred upon the
City of Salina, Kansas to issue its temporary notes for the
purpose of providing the payment of partial estimates under
said contract,

ers of the City of blalina, Kansas:
That the 'Mayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby
authorized to issue the Temporary Note of the City of Salina,
t ansas in the s= of w54,543.87 dated 1,,Iay 27th, 192419 said sum
being f orthe amount of work now completed under the above
contracts as aforesaid, exclusvie of the amounts for which
notes have heretofore been issued.
Said note to draw intere st at the rate of 1-1/4 o per
annum from its date to the date of which it is retired. Said
note to be delivered to C. P. Barrington or to his order.

On motion of Condi ssioner Chambers the resolution was
adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes Hargett, Dyar and
Chambers (3) Nays: (0)
City Engineer submitted plans and specifications and
estimate of cost for the paving of:
Claflin Avenue from highland Avenue to Ninth Street;
Street Car Tracks on Santa Fe Avenue from Beloit riven-
ue to Claflin Avenue;
also for the curbing and guttering of:
The east side of Ninth Street from Je-,aell Avenue to
Cloud Street.
On motion of Commissioner Dyar same were adopted and ap-
proved by the Board of Commissioners and the City Clerk was
instructed to advertise for bids for the paving, curbing and
guttering of the above mentioned streets to be received up to
and including Monday, June 2nd, 1924 at 4:00 P. M. Motion
adopted.

Mayor Hargett appointed _,i. S. Frey, C. J. Peck and C. I.
'leaver to act as appraisers for the paving of:
Claflin Avenue from IIighla,,-d Avenue to I'linth 6treet;
Street Car Tracks on Santa Fe Avenue from Beloit Avenue
to Claflin Avenue;
Also for the curbing and guttering:
Last side of Ninth Street from Jewell avenue to Cloud
Street.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the appointments were
confirmed.
An agreement was presented between the Salina '•eater ;forks
Company and the City of Salina for the laying of a six-inch
Crater main on Claflin Avenue from highland Avenue to ninth
Street.
On motion of Commissioner Dyar, same was adopted by the
Board of Commissioners.
City Manager Layton reported unfavorable on the petition
asking for the construction of a sidewalk, on the nest side of
Ninth Street and on the east and west side of Tenth Street from
Crawford Avenue to Frost 'Street.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled.:

Salina, Kansas to pay the cost.of excavating, grading and paving
all of the unpaved portion of Santa Fe Avenue in said City in

of the Salina Street 'ai bray Company, from a point 230 feet 9puth
of South Street to the north line of Beloit Avenue therein, k ith
the exception however of the intersections of t'rreseott "venue

and relating to and providing for the collection and payment of
such assessments,
On motion of Commissioner Dyar same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.

assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of
Salina, 11"ansas to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, excavating,
grading and paving==�-leyenth Street in said City from the north
line of Park Street to the south line of Elm Street therein, and
relating to and providing for the collection and payment of such
assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
"An ordinance -relating to and apportioning and levying special
assQssments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City
of Galina, Kansas to pay the cost of curbing, guttering, excavat-
ing, grading and paving Highland Avenue in said City from the
south line of 'republic 'venue to the north line of Beloit "venue
therein, and relating to and providing for the collection and
payment of such assessments.'
On motion of Commissioner Dyar same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
