COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING.

JANUARY 28th, 1924.
Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners, January
28th2 1924. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Dyar, the roll
was called and Commissioners Hargett, Dyar and Chambers and City
Attorney Norris responded.
The minutes of the Regular Ttie e t ing of January 21st, 1924
were read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance prohibiting the possession, bartering, sale, ex-
changing or giving away of opium or coca leaves, or any compound
salt, derivative or preparation thereof or of other narcotic drugs
mentioned ins aid ordinance, and making the violation thereof a
misdemeanor and providing for a penalty for such violation."
On motion of Commissioner Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hargett, Dyar and Chamb-
ers (3 ) Nays: 0 ) The 2�ayor approved the same and is numbered
2916.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
"An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 2906 entitled, An ordinance
relating to salaries and compensation of officers and employees
of the City of Salina, Kansas, and repealing Ordinance No. 2425
of the City of Salina, Kansas, and repe'alin§ such parts of Ordi-
nance No. 2906 as are in conflict herewith.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced for first,reading entitled:
"An ordinance providing for And requiring the cutting and destruc-
tion of all weeds and obnoxious vegetation on lots and pieces of
land and in streets and alleys in front of and abutting upon any
lot or piece of land within the City of Salina, Kansas and provid-
ing for the cutting and destruction of such weeds and obnoxious
growth of vegetation by the City and the assessing of the entire
cost thereof to the abutting lots and pieces of land."
On motion of Commissioner Dyar same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
City Engineer reported that it would be possible for the
City to pave Sunset !give from Ninth Street to Highland Circle
without any sewer construction.
Commissioner Dyar moved that the City advertise for bids
for the paving of Sunset Drive from Ninth Street to Highland 'Cir-
cle, bids to be received up to and including February 6th, 1924
at 4 otclock P. 11.
Mayor Hargett appointed T. S. Frey, C. J. Peck and 'aim.
Muir to aer as appraisers to ascertain the valuation of the lots
and pieces of ground liable to special assessment for the cost of
paving Sunset Drive from Ninth Street to Highland Circle.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the appointments were
confirmed.
A petition was received asking for the curbing, guttering and
graveling the east side of Ninth Street between Jewell Avenue and
Cloud Street, provided that arrangements can be made to cause the
same improvements to be made on the gest side of the same section
of Ninth street. Same was referred to the City Manager.
Depositary Bond from The Farmers National Bank in the amount
of 410,000.00 was received, and on motion of Commissioner Dyar same
was accepted and approved by the Board of Commissioners.
On notion of Commissioner Chambers Board of Commissioners
