H egular I'eeting of the Board of Commissioners, January
7th, 1924. 1'eeting wns c alled to order by I ayor =larei;t, the
roll blas called and Commissioners Hargett, Dyar and Chambers
responded. City Attorney ITorris absent.
The minutes of the regular I,'Zeeting of December 31st,
1923 were read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled:
"An ordinance providing for the curbing, guttering, excavating,
grading and paving Eighth Street in the City of Salina, Kansas
from the north line of Elm Gtr e t to the south line of I"ine
Street in said City, and providing for the cost thereof hoyj
the same shall be assessed and manner of payment therefor.
On motion of Commissioners Chambers same was referred
to the Board of Commissioners.
A petition was received asking for the installation of
an arc light on the corner of Ash Street and Des Moines
'venue. wbame was referred to the City .ana-ger,
Bids were received as advertised for, for truck to be
used by.the Street Department.
Commissioner Dyar moved that all bids be taken under
advisement by the Commissioners to report on the same at the
next 'egular !,'Teeting.
City =-tanager Layton stated that he had received bids for
coal for the City Building.
Commissioner Dyar moved that the matter be left in the
hands of the City Iianager to use his oven discretion as to the
-purchase of the coal.
A communication was received from The Irartford t=ccident
and Indemnity Company of Hartford, Connecticut,__asking to be
released as surety for City Treasurer Henry H.=berhardt,
after December 28th, 1923, by reason of bond being cancelled
and re -written in another Company.
Commissioner Chambers moved that said Company be released
from liability for anything that may occur on and after the
28th day of `december 1923.
Commissioner Dyar moved that the City Clerk advertise
for the sale of approximately ;100,000. 00 Paving Bonds bear-
ing interest at the rate of 4-3/41) dated April lst, 1924, to
be delivered on or about September lst, 1924, bids to be re-
ceived up to and including February 4th, 1924 at 4:00 P. 11.
City 1 anagen Layton submitted the name of Chas. M.
Hagler as Building Inspector, and on motion of Commissioner
Dyar the appointment was confirmed.
Applications were received for pool hall licenses for
the first half of 1924 as follows:

On motion of Commissioner Chambers license iaas granted..
The heads of the different departments of the City gov-
erm,ent made a verbal report to the Commissioners relative to
the work of their department for the year 1924.
Commissioner Dyar moved that the recommendations be sub-
mitted in vmiting and that a vote of thanks be extended to
the heads of the various departments for their co-operation
during the past year.
On motion of Corrmlissioner Chambers, Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
