The meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on January 18,
2022, in the Prescott Room.
The following Board members were present: David Greiser, Brendan Burke, Judy Nold, Susan Kelly,
Gerry Cox and Danielle Brown. Others present were Melanie Hedgespeth, and Sandy Wilcox.

22-01 On a motion made by Brendan Burke and seconded by Susan Kelly , it was RESOLVED
THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the consent agenda. Motion
passed unanimously. Pg 1260. 01/18/2022.
DISCUSSION/ACTION
DIRECTORS REPORT
2021 Budget Review and Stat Review: The physical circulation has gone up compared to last year.
E-materials continue to have good use. Tech use remains the same as last year. We still are careful
with events due to Covid. The Maintenance line item is over due to some larger repairs. We had
to pay more on Work comp insurance this year due to adding our own security.
Library Board Annual Review: ByLaws, Board Orientation, Library Statute: Melanie asked the Board
to review the ByLaws and gave the Board a copy of the Treasurer Bond information.
CKLS: Melanie attended the CKLS Board meeting in Sylvan Grove on January 12, 2022. CKLS will
be sending a letter in regards to our withdrawal from the system. They are also sending a letter in
regards to Hoopla. Melanie will be our voting representative at their annual meeting.
Trustee information was reviewed by Gerry Cox, Judy Nold, David Greiser, Brendan Burke and
Susan Kelly. Future training options will be provided to the board as they come up.

22-02 On a motion made by Brendan Burke and seconded by Susan Kelly , it was RESOLVED
THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves that Melanie is appointed our
voting representative for CKLS. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1260. 01/18/2022
Board Members: Gerry Cox and Danielle Brown’s terms are up this year so they need to complete
the board form with the City if they would like to renew for another term.
Ad Astra is partnering with us for a book discussion. We have five new book discussion groups this
year. We had our Staff training day yesterday. Staff teams met as well as in depth training was
provided by Stefanie Knopp, Head of Information Services & Katie Pearson, Head of Youth Services
about the physical materials available in our library. We also reviewed security procedures, the
library calendar and the capital campaign. Staff also met with their supervisors to go over their
2022 work plans.
ASSISTANT DIRECTORS REPORT: Amy was absent so Melanie reported.
Youth Services Remodel - updates: Amy is putting together a capital campaign committee to begin
raising funds for the Youth Services remodel.
