Irieeting was called to order by Mayor Dyar, the roll was called and Commissioners Campbell, Dyar and H.argett, and City Attorney Buzick responded. i The minutes of the Regular RJeeting of April 17th, 1922, ". and the Adjourned 1,41 eting of April 20th, 1922, were read and approved as read. j An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance defining a certain public nuisance and providing for the abatement thereof." On motion of Commissioner Tiargett the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was 11.ad; Ayes: Campbell, Dyar and Hargett. (3) Nays: (0) The 14ayor approved the same and is numbered 2489. An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the condemnation and appropriation of a certain tract and parcel of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, for the purpose of opening, and extending Faulkner Street in said City from the north line of said;nFaulkner Street north to the south line of Iron Avenue in said City and providing for the aprointment of appraisers therefor." On motiori of Commissioner Campbell the ordinance was read and adopted by sectiorts and on its final adoption the roll was called and the folloivi_ng vote was had; Ayes: Campbell, Dyar and Hargett. (3) Nays (0) The Iiayor approved the same and is numbered 2490. The following resolution was introduced for second re<3d- in,�: BE IT RESOLVED by the Board. of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas that the Llayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby authorized and directed, to execute on behalf of the said City the Lease and Agreement entered into between the City of Salina, Kansas party of the first part and J. J. McCloskey doing business as owner of the Saline} Baseball Club of the Southwestern League, party of the second part, bearing date of April 17th, 1922, including that tract of ground described in Section Two (2) of said. lease, covering 500 feet square direct- ly in front of the Grand Stand to the south and to the east in Kenwood Park to the City of Salina, Kansas. (3) Nays: (0) The following resolution was introduced for second reading: BE IT RE314'OLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas that all bids which were presented. and consid- ered as per notice for bids for the painting of the Grand Stand in the Kenwood Park in the City of Salina, Kansas, according to the plans and specifications of the City Engineer, which bids were submitted on or before Larch 6th, 1922, are hereby rejected because of the fact, that each bid so presented, in the minds of the Board of Commissioners, was too high to be considered as per figures so presented to the Board of Commissioners. On motion of Commissioner Hargett same was referred to the • Board of Commissioners. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance specifying and sleeting the paving material to be used and letting a contract for the paving, excavating, curbing and guttering of certain streets in the City of Salina, Kansas.11 On motion. of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance specifying and selecting the paving material to be used and letting a contract for the paving, excavating, curbing and guttering of certain streets in the City of Salina, Kansas.�� On motion of Commissioner Hargett same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A petition signed by F. S. Keen and seven other citizens was presented asking for the curbing, guttering, excavating and paving of Beloit Avenue from Santa Fe Avenue to McPherson Branch Railroad A petition signed by A. E. Heiss and thirteen other citizens was presented asking for the excavating and paving of Dish Street from the east line of Ash Street Bridge to the east line of Oak- dale Avenue. A petition signed by Jas. McDade and seven other citizens was presented asking for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grad- ing and paving of Penn Avenue from Ash Street to Elm Street. A resolution was introduced for first reading providing ,for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grading and paving of VTwelfth Street from the north line of State Street to the South line of Ash Street. On moitoin of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading providing for the excavating and paving of Ash Street from the east line of Ash V Street Bridge to the east line ofd kdale Avenue. On motion of Commissioner Hargett same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. S1 s A resolution was introduced for first reading providing for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grading and. paving of Elm Street from the east line of Elm Street Bridge to the west v line of Ohio Avenue. On motion of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading providing for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grading and paving of Penn Avenue from the north line of Ash Street to the south line of Elm Street.~ On motion of Commissioner Hargett same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading providing for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grading and paving of Beloit Avenue from the east line of Santa Fe Avenue to the west line of Merherson Branch Railroad Right-of-way. On motion of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. Wm. Reimold appeared before the Commissioners and asked for an extension of time for the construction of sidewalks on the west side of Eighth Street between Hamilton Avenue and Harsh Street. Commissioner Campbell moved that an extension of time of six weeks be given on the south portion and time extended to Sep- tember on the balance of said walks. Motion adopted. City Manager, 117. A. Layton. appointed Fred Schumaker as Special Police at Watson Durand Kasper Grocery Company to succeed Alex Canning, and on motion of Commissioner Hargett the appointment was confirmed. City Manager was instructed to purchase one 2 -horse mower and one 1 -horse m&v"ier to be used in the Street Department of the City of Salina, Kansas. A petition signed by B. F. Shepherd and thirteen other citizens was presented asking for the construction of a four - inch water main commencing at the intersection of College Avenue and South Street, running thence west on South Street to Mon- trose Avenue, thence south on Montrose Avenue to Morrison Avenue. On motion, same was referred to the City ?:Tanager. Mayor Dyar appointed W. S. Frey, C. J. Peck and Vim. Muir to act as appraisers to appraise the property liable to special assessment for the cost of constructing certain sewers as pro- vided for in Ordinance No. 2487. On motion of Commissioner Campbell the appointments were confirmed. Mayor Dyar appointed i>>.. S. Frey, C. J. Peck and Vim. Muir to act as appraisers in ascertaining the valuation of the lots and pieces of ground liable to special assessment on which to base the cost of curbing, guttering, excavating and paving of: Republic Avenue from the east line of Fifth Street to the east line of Sana e Avenue; Bond Street from the west line of Fifth Street to the east line of SanEa Fe Avenue; Crawford Avenue from the west line of Fifth Street to the east line of Santa Fe Avenue. On motion of Commissioner Hargett the appointments were confirmed. On motion of Commissioner Campbell, Board of Commissioners adjourned until Tuesday, April 25th, 1922 at 7:30 o'clock P. M.
