Regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council, November
15th, 1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, and the following named
councilmen ans=wered to roll call; Dyar, Givens, Spaeth, Harne,
Campbell, Waite, Bradford and Carver. Councilmen Howell and Bar-
bee and City Attorney Buzick absent. `
The minutes of the Aegular Semi -Monthly Meeting of November
I lst, 1920, were read and approved as read.
Isidor Vehon, of the Merchants Association appeared before
the Council and asked the Council to revise the license ordinance
pertaining to peddlers, asking that a higher rate of license be
established.
The matter was referred to the City Attorney to confer with
the erchant's Association, and to bring in a report at a future
meeting.
jCouncilman Givens of the Ways and Means Committee, submit-
ted a report and recommended that the City license heretofore
charged Fire Insurance Companies in the City be repealed.

On motion this matter was also referred to the City. "ttorney.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
f On motion of Councilman Waite the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dyar, Givens, Spaeth,
Harne, Campbell, +Vaite, Bradford and earver. (8) Nays: (0)
Councilmen Howell and Barbee absent. The Mayor approved the same
and is numbered 2352.
Councilman Bradford of the Building Committee reported that
Mr. Bren of the Chamber of Com<:erce asked the City to have the
Assembly Room on the third floor of the City Building re -decorated.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the matter be placed in the hands
of the Building Committee with power to act.

A communication was received from the City Plumbing Company
i protesting against the hamburger stand that has been recently
constructed south of their place of business on South Santa Fe
Avenue, stating that the construction of this building has in-
creased their insurance rates.
C ou_ic i lman Spaeth moved that the party be notified to move
said building within ten days from this date. Motion adopted.
Councilman Spaeth of the Sewer and Drainage Committee sug-
gested that the City remove the rubbish from the Smoky Hill River
at the mouth of the sewer, thereby permitting the water to have
f a free passage.
The matter was referred to the Street Commissioner to have
the work done.
Councilir�an Dyar of the Park Committee reported that the
party occupying a portion of the ground in Riverside Park had
I never paid any rent to the City for the use of the same.

The matter was referred to the Park Commit bee for invest i-
gation and with power to act.

Councilman Bradford moved that the time limit for burning —
leaves be extended until seven O'clock k. for the next thirty
days to enable the citizens to clean up and burn the fallen leaves.
h Councilman Spaeth moved, that the Chief of Police, at or:ce
j collect the junk license from the junk dealers that have been do-
ing business in the City. Motion adopted.

A communication 'was "received from The Salina Light, Power &:
Gas Company, aslring permission to erect a Christmas tree on Santa
Fe Avenue in front of their, place of business, during the holiday
season. On roll call the request was denied.

Councilman Waite moves that the Chief of Police notify
the merchants on Fifth Street to vacate the sidewalk in front
of their place of business, except the three feet next to their
building, as provided by Crdinance.

A petition was received asking for the enforcement of the
Auto Traffic Ordinance, and on motion same was read and ordered
filed.
The monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer, Police I
Judge and Fire Chief were received and ordered filed.
On motion of Councilman la ite, Council adjourned.
