AUGUST 2nd, 1920
Regular semi-monthly of the City Council, August 2nd,
1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney A. R. BUzick
and the following named councilmen answered to roll call;
Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Barbee, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Brad-
ford and Carver. Councilman Howell absent.
The minutes of the Regular semi-monthly meeting of
July 19th, 1920, were read and approved as read.
Mr. Reed asked permission to erect a refreshment stand
on the vacant lot south of the City Plumbing Company's place
on South Santa Fe Avenue.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the matter be referred to
the Building Committee with power to act.
Mr. Sullivan asked permission to build a sheet iron gar-
age at the rear of the Knights of Columbus Building on the
corner of Iron Avenue and Eighth Street.
Councilman Bradford moved that a special permit be grant-
ed. Motion adapted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled., "An ordinance re-
lating to the salaries and compensations of officers and employ-
ees of the City of Salina, Kansas, and repealing all ordinances
or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith."
On motion of Councilman Spaeth the rules of order were
suspended for its consideration by the following vote: Ayes:
Stolper,Dyar, Spaeth, Harne, Cambpell, Waite, Bradford, Bar-
bee and Carver. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Howell absent.
On motion of Councilman Waite the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final ad®ption is the ordinance
was read and adopted by sections and the following vote was
had: Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Harne, Campbell, YVaite,
Bradford, Barbee and Carver. (9) Nays: (9) Councilman
Howell absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered
2344.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance
making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Councilman Spaeth the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll
was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper,
Dyar, Spaeth, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Bradford, Barbee and Car-
ver. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Howell absent. The Mayor
approved the same and is numbered 2345.
Councilman Harne of the Street and Alley Committee, report-
ed favorable on the petition asking for the vacation of the
alley in the Grounds of the K. 4. U. Addition between Santa Fe
and Highland Avenue, from Minneapolis Avenue to Beloit Avenue.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the report of the Commit-
tee be accepted, and the City Attorney be instructed to draft
the necessary ordinance by the next meeting.
Street and Alley Committee asked for further time to
report on the protest against the paving of Grand Avenue from
the east side of Santa Fe Avenue to the west side of Fifth
Street; Fifth Street from the south side of Grand Avenue to
the north side of Forrest Avenue; and Forrest "venue from the
east side of Fifth Street to a point 120 feet east of the east
line of Second Street. On motion, further time was granted.
Bids as advertised for, for the removal and reconstruc-
tion of curb and gutter at certain intersections were received
from, Pete Ahlstedt and W. E. Surbaugh.
Councilman Waite moved that the contract be awarded to
Pete Ahlstedt as per his bid. Motion adpted.
On motion of Councilman Campbell, Council adjourned.
