REGULAR MEETING, COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

SALINA KANSAS
JULY 5th, 1920
Regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council July
1 5th2 1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney A. R. Buzick
and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Stol-
per, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Bradford and
Carver. Councilman Barbee absent.

The minutes of the Regular Semi -Monthly meeting of June
21st, 1920, were read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance mak-
ing an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Councilman Howell the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was call
ed and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Campbeell, Naite, Bradford and Carver. (9)
Nays: (0) Councilman Barbee absent. The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered X340.
Councilman Bradford of the Building Committee stated that
the Rest Room redently constructed has been completed, except
painting the outside of the building, which was not in the orig-
inal contract, and that it would be necessary to purchase some
furniture for the furnishing of said building.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the matter be referred back
to the Building Committee to have the building painted on the
outisde; also to purchase the necessary furniture for the furnish-
ing of said building.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance re-
quiring the payment of certain sums into the City `treasury of
the City of Salina, Kansas, and providing for the certification
to the County Clerk of Saline County, Kansas, of certain sums
not paid and to be assessed as taxes against certain land."
On motion of Councilman Spaeth the rules of order were
suspended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes:
Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Bradford,
and Carver. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Barbee absent.
On motion of Councilman 41aite the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was call-
ed and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Campbell, Naite, Bradford and Carver. (9) Nays:
(0) Councilman Barbee absent. The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 2341.
The following resolution was introduced:
BE IT RESOLVED,, by the Mayor and Councilmen of the
City of Salina, Kansas, that the Mayor and Councilmen of the
City of Salina, Kansas, certify to the Governor of said state,
in accordance with law, the fact that it has been duly ascer-
tained by the official count of the returns of the 14th census
of the United States that the City of Salina, Kansas has a popu-
lation of Fifteen Thousand Eighty -Five (15, 085. )
Passed and approved this 5th day of July, 1920.

On motion of Councilman Spaeth the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration and the resolution adopted as read
by the following vote; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell,
Harne, Campbell, Waite, Bradford and Carver. (9) Nays: (0)
Councilman Barbee absent .

The following resolution was introduced:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
the City of Salina, Kansas, that the City of Salina, Kansas,
purchase for a consideration of not more than One Dollar
($1.00) all of the unsold lands belonging to The Gypsum Hill
Cemetery Association, of said City and State.
Passed and approved this 5th day of July, 1920.

On motion of Councilman Waite the rules of order -,Nere
suspended for its consideration bLpd' the- resolution adopted
as read by the following vote; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Bradford and Carver. (9)
Nays: (0) Councilman Barbee absent.
Councilman Dyar moved. that the Mayor secure an auditor
to audit the City's books. Motion adopted.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the City receive bids for
two cars of coal for the use of the City Building, bids to be
received at the Regular Meeting of July 19th, 1920.
Applications for the renewal of pool hall licenses for
the last half of 1920 were received from:

On motion of Councilman Stolper the licenses were
granted.
A petition was received asking for the vacation of the
alley between Santa Fe Avenue and Highland Avenue from Minne-
apolis Avenue to Beloit Avenue. Same was referred to the
Street and Alley Committee.
On motion of Councilman Dyar, Council adjourned.
