DECEMBER 2021 Minutes1257 The meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on December 21st, 2021, in the Prescott Room. The following Board members were present: David Greiser, Brendan Burke, Judy Nold, Susan Kelly, Gerry Cox, Lisa Mahler, and Danielle Brown. Others present were Melanie Hedgespeth, Amy Adams, and Sandy Wilcox. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None CONSENT AGENDA: a.Action Items i.Minutes of the November 16, 2021, library board meeting Ii.Minutes of the November 30, 2021, special board meeting b.Informational Items i.Financial Reports ii.Statistical Reports 21-43 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the consent agenda. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1257. 12/21/2021. DISCUSSION/ACTION DIRECTORS REPORT We have Chromebooks available for use in the library and science kits out for circulation. We increased checkouts for Hoopla for the holiday season. We had some limbs down and the door at the McKenzie Center had damage from the wind storm. In 2019 we had 7200 print materials added to our circulation, in 2020, 5400 print materials were added and in 2021, 6500 print materials have been added so far. Every month staff removes library accounts that have expired three years or more and have under $100 of fines. We will see the Maintenance line item go over budget this year. We are having several trees removed and having the remaining trees trimmed. The 2022 strategic plan is ready to go. Information was discussed that in the CKLS November 17, 2021 board minutes, Gail Santy, reported to her board that “... Salina Public Library submitted a letter for SPL to withdraw from the system at the end of the year.” This is not correct. The email sent asked if they would oppose us withdrawing from the system. Danielle is going to email and ask for a correction to the CKLS board minutes. We have received estimates on the Youth Services remodel. We anticipate allocating $500,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund towards this project. We are planning on forming a committee to discuss the Capital Campaign to fund the remainder of the project. We have identified a freelance person to help with grant writing and such. 1258 We have heard from USD 305 and have received their data for school library cards and the rollout to students should begin in January. Policy Manual - Juneteenth The board held a discussion on adding Juneteenth to our holiday schedule. 20-43 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Susan Kelly it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approves to add the Juneteenth holiday to our list of holiday closings. Motion passed unanimously Pg. 1258, 12/21/2021 Budget Items: Health Insurance rates stayed the same for 2022. Melanie spoke to the Board about recognizing supervisors for all their hard work this year. 21-44 On a motion made by Brandon Burke and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the Supervisor bonuses for 2021. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1258. 12/21/2021. 21-45 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves up to $10,000 to recognize staff. Motion passed unanimously. Pg 1258. 12/21/2021. 21-46 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves moving up to $270,000 into the capital improvement fund. EXECUTIVE SESSION: 21-47 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Brendan Burke it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library along with the Director, Melanie Hedgespeth, recess into executive session for 7 minutes based upon the need to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel pursuant to K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1). The open meeting will resume in this room at 8:05 a.m. Motion passed unanimously Pg. 1258, 12/21/2021. The meeting resumed back into regular session at 8:06 a.m. 21-48 On a motion made by Brendan Burke and seconded by David Greiser it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approves to raise the Director’s salary to $100,000 for 2022.
