Regular semi-monthly rceeting of the City Council, June 7th,
1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, and the following named council-
men ansa;ered to roll call; Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, garne, Camp-
bell, haite, -bradford, Barbee and Carver. City Attorney G. A.
Spencer and Councilman Howell absent.
The minutes of the Regular Semi -Monthly rr,eeting of May 17th ,
1920, were read and approved as read.
F. D. Blundon appeared before the Counciol and presented a
petition asking for the vacation of the alley between Santa Fe
1,venue and Seventh Street, 200 feet north of South Street, through
the ground recently purchased by The „rasonic Te;T.ple Aid Associa-
tion.
Councilman ggaite moved that the prayers of the petitioners
be granted.
Ari ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an apporpriation for the payment of certain claims."
Cn motion of Councilman L'; ar the ordinance was read and f
adopted by sections and on its final adopiton the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes. Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Harne, Campbell, mite, Bradford, Barbee and Carver. (9) Nays:
(0) Councilman rjowell absent . The Mayor approved the s ame
and is numbered 2338.
Street and Alley Committee reported favorably on the peti-
tidn asking for the location of an arc 11ght at the corner of
Jewell and Osborne.
Councilman Campbell moved that the report of the Committee
be adopted, and that the City Clerk notify The Salina Light, Pow-
er and Cas Company to install said light. Motion adopted.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the City Clerk be instructed
to notify The Security Building and Loan Asspciation to remove
their sign at the corner of Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Avenue
as the same obstructs the view of the Santa Fe and the Golden
Belt Road.
The natter of establishing additional safety zones was gen-
erally discussed by the Council.
Councilman Barbee moved that the matter be referred to the
Mayor to use his own judUrient in establishing additional safety
zones.
Councilman Dyar presented a communication and specifications
from, The �rnerican retroleum institute, relative to gasoline sto-
raLe tanks.
Councilman Campbell moved that if he wished to construct
the same on the lot on the inside of the sidewalk the permit
would be granted; but that no permit be granted for a stand on
the parking. Motion adopted.
Insomuch as The National Refining Company signified their
intention of complying with all the requirements in the above
named specifications, Councilman Dyar moved that the petition
presented sometime ago, for the removal of said tanks be denied.
Motion adopted.

Councilman Spaeth moved that the City Attorney draft an ordi-
nance covering the above specifications, to apply to all oil com-
panies doing business in tre City of Salina, Kansas.
Councilman Bradford, stated that A. LN. Weburg, living at
318 North Ninth Street, wished a special permit to construct a gr -
arae and wash house; and moved that a special permit be granted.
Lave Face asked for a special permit to construct a stand
at the northeast corner of Ninth and Elm Streets.
Councilman Campbell moved that if he wished to construct
the same on the lot on the inside of the sidewalk the permit
would be granted; but that no permit be granted for a stand on
the parking. Motion adopted.
Councilman Waite moved that the City Marshal notify the
property owners to remove the obstruction at the corner of Fourth -
and South Streets.
Fire Chief, Ben vvolbert , made requisition for 100 feet of
rope, also paint for the painting of the Fire Chief's car.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the request be granted.
Councilman Dyar of the narks and Parking Committee suggest-
ed several improvements that were necessary in the different parks
owned by the City of Salina.
Councilman Dyar, reported favorably on the matter of leasing
the lots adjacent to the Hawthorne School, to be used as a play
ground to accomodate the citizens in that part of town.
Councilman Bradford moved that the City lease the above lots
at once. Notion adopted.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the City Attorney draft a reso-
lution providing for the paving of -Lincoln Avenue from Santa Fe
Avenue to Standard Cil Company's plant.
A petition was received asking for the location of an arc
light at the corner of Ash Street and Ohio l,venae . Same was re-
ferred to the Street and 41'311ey Committee.
A petition was received asking for the widening of Chicago
Street from Elm Street to Ash Street. Same was referred to the
Street and Alley Committee.
On motion of Councilman Barbee, Council adjourned.
