Regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council, -hay
17th, 1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, City kttorney G. A.
Spencer and the following named councilmen answered to roll
call; Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Bradford, Camp-
bell, --'+aite, Barbee and Carver.
The ri.inutes of the j`egular Semi-monthly meeting of May
3rd, 1920, were read and approved as read.
A number of resolutions protesting against Sunday base-
ball were presented, also a number of citizens appeared be-
fore the Council protesting against Sunday base ball, and
there were also a number of citizens who appeared before the
Council in favor of Sunday base ball.
The resolutions were ordered filed.
R. Ea. Rearwin appeared before the Council and asked to
be released from covering with iron the auto garage recently
constructed in his lumber yard at the corner of Santa Fe and
Elm at reets , stating that the same was constructed with first-
class lumber, and in his opinion there would not be any more
fire hazard than if the same were covered -, ith iron.
Councilman Campbell moved that the action taken by the
Council at the last regular Meeting be rescinded, and that
the matter be referred back to the -Building Committee.
An ordinance was introduced entitled; "An ordinance
making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Councilman S t�aeth the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll
was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper,
Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Campbell, 4aite, Lradford,.Bar-
bee and Carver. (10) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 2335.
The appraisers report for the opening of Wilson Street
from Santa Fe to Fourth Street was received and ordered filed.
An ordinance was introduced entitled; ItAnordinance
providing for the construction of certain sidewalks in the
City of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman W ite the rules of order were
suspended for its consideration by the following, vote; Ayes:
Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Iiarne, Campbell, Waite, I'rad-
ford, Bar i;ee and Carver. (10) Nays: (0)
On motion of Councilman Harne the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Oyar,
Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Carrii,beel, Waite, Bradford, Bsrbee and
Carver. (10) Nays: (0) The wlayor approved the same and
is numbered 2336.
The following resolution was introduced:
411EREAS, it has been sho*n to the Mayor and Council
that there are nine persons on Fenn Avenue who desire to be-
come tenants of The Salina eater Works company for domestic
purposes only and that in order to permit such persons to
become such tenants it will be necessary to lay and install
not to exceed Six Hundred ( 600) feet of two-inch pipe there-

BE IT R11OLVED, by the Mayor and Council of the City
of Salina, that the Sa18na water ',`40rks Company be and it is
hereby directed to lay- and install a two-inch mater main on
Fenn Elvenue from Elm, Street north to Lot Twenty -Eight (28)
Block One (1), Riverside Park Addition, for a distance of not
to exceed Six hundred ( 600) feet.

suspended for its consideration and the resolution adopted as
read by the Following vote; Ayes: Stolper, Eyar, Spaeth, Howell,
Harne, Campbell, 'Naite, Bradford, Barbee and Carver. (10) Nays;

The following resolution was introduced:
BE IT RESOLVE , by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City
of Salina, Kansas, that the Salina ater-iiorks Company be and it
is hereby directed to lay a six (6) inch water main on Phillips
Street from, Morrison venue to Crawford l venue, a distance of Two
Thousand Fifty (2,050) feet, and to locate fire hydrants thereon
as may be hereafter designated by the Fire Chief of the city of
Salina, Kansas.
Passed and approved, May 17th, 1920.

On motion of Councilman Bradford the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration and the resolution adopted as read
by the following vote; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne,
Campbell, Waite, I=radford, Barbee and Carver. (10) Nays: (0)
�- An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance provid-
ing for the issuance of Sewer Improvement bonds of the City of
Salina, Kansas, in the sum of "19,036.28"
On motion of Councilman Stolper the rules of order were sus-
pender: for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stol-
per, dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Campbell, Waite, Eradford, Bar-
bee and Carver. (10) Nays: (0)
Cn motion of Councilman Dyar the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Campbell, .Iraite, Bradford, Bar -bee and Carver. (10)
Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2337.
Councilman Spaeth moved that a committee be appointed to
see if ground adjacent to the Hawthorne School could riot be leased
for play grounds to accomodate the citizens north of the tracks.
Mayor Mathews appointed the Parks and Parking Committee to
,to act as such committee.
The Annual Financial Report of the Tre asurer of the Nelfare
Board for the year ending May 3rd, 1920, was received and ordered
filed.

Councilman Dyar moved that the appointments be confirmed. Motion
adopted.
A petition was received asking for the locat i6n of a
light at the corner of Jewell and Osborne. Same was referred
to the Street and Alley Committee.
A petition was received asking for the construction of a
sidewalk on the east side of Eleventh Street from Ash Street to
Park Street. Same was referred to the Sidewalk Committee.

The monthly inreports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer,
Police Judge and Fire Chief were received and ordered filed.
On motion of Councilman Harne, Council adjourned.
