Regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council, April
5th, 1920. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer
and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Stol-
per, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Ryberg, 1"daite, Bradford and
Peters. Councilman Todd absent.
The minutes of the Regular semi-monthly meeting of March
15th, 1920, were read and approved as -read.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance mak-
ing an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Councilman Peters the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had* Ayes: Stolpar, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Ryberg, "aite, Bradford and Peters. (9) Nays:
(0) Councilman Todd absent. The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 2327.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance relat-
ing to the salary of the rrobation Officer."
On motion of Councilman Spaeth the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stol-
per, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Ryberg, j4azte, -bradford and
Peters. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Todd absent .
On motion of Councilman Harne the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had • Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
HoNell, Harne Ryberg, haite, Bradford and Peters. (9) Nays:
(0) Councilman Todd absent. The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 2328.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance pro-
viding for the condemnation and appropriation of certain lots and
pieces of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, for the purpose
of opening and extending Nilson Street from the east line of
manta re Avenue to the east line of Fourth Street in the city
of Salina, Kansas, and providing for the appointment of apprais-
ers therefor."
On motion of Councilman "aite the rules of order fere sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stol-
per, Dyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harne, Ryberg, Waite, Bradford and

On motion of Councilman Peters the ordinance Nas read and
adopted by sections ans on its final adoption the roll vas call-
ed and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, Harne, Ryberg, lyaite, Bradford and geters. (9) Nays:
(0) Cou lcilman Todd absent . The Mayor appfloved the sane and is
numbered 2329.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance creat-
ing and establishing a Benefit District for the purpose of open-
ing Milson Street from Santa i"'e'venue to Fourth Street in the
City of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman Peters the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stol-
per, Dyar, Spaeth, iiowe11, Harne, Ryberg, Waite, Bradford and Pe-
ters. (9) Nays: (0) Counc ilman Todd absent.
On motion of Councilman Stolper the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was call-
ed and the following vote was Yad; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth,
Howell, narne, Ryberg, Waite, radford and Peters. (9) clays:
(0) Councilman Todd absent. The Mayor approved the same and
is numbered 2330.

On motion of CouncilMan Harne the appointments were confirmed.

Thr. Spears, a representative of tine National Refining Com-
pany appeared before the Council and asked the council not to
take any definite action in reference to the removal of the oil -
tanks from the City limits until the company could have a re-
presentative of the National Board of Fire Underwriters and
other like concerns here to confer with the Council, so that the
matter could be adjusted satisfactorily to all parties concerned.
On motion of Councilman Dyar the request was granted.
F. L. Blundon appeared before the Council in reference to
the Board of Education occupying rooms on the second floor of
the City Building, at present occupied by the Rid Cross.
Councilman Peters moved that the request be granted.
Motion adopted.
Councilman Waite moved that the City Attorney take up the
matter with the Bonding Company in reference to the faulty con-
dition of the paving in the alley between Santa Fe Avenue and
Seventh Street from =Ash Street to Elm Street . Mot ion adopted.
Councilman Harne moved that the City Engineer be instructed
to purchase a 15 -inch Valve Gauge to be placed on the end of the
sewer on State Street at Dry creek. Motion adopted.
On motion, the Street Commissioner was instructed to buy
alfalfa seed to seed a portion of Kenwood Park.
Bids for the plumbing of the rest room were received from
A. J. Bachofer, City dumbing Company, Dave Hill and Home Plumb -
i ng Company.
Councilman Waite moved that the constract be awarded to
The Home Plumbing Company as per their bid. Mlotion adopted.
petition was received protesting against the storing
of house moving supplies on moots 15 and 16 on \Torth Ninth Street.
Same was referred to the Sewer Committee.
On motion of Councilman i'eters, Council adjourned until
Friday, april 9th, 1920 at eight o'clock 2. M.
