Spencer and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Stolper, Dyar; Spaeth, Harne, Ryberg Waite, Bradford, and Todd. Councilmen Howell and keteres absent. The minutes of the Regular Semi -Monthly Meeting of Aug- ust 18th, 1919, were read and approved as read. Bids for the furnishing of coal for the City Building were reaceived as follows: T. F. Sullivan, Drenning .Lumber Company, Farmers Elevator, R. N. HearXin. Councilman Todd moved that the bid of T. F. Sullivan for x+6.00 per ton be accepted. Motion adoptdd. An ordinance was introduced entitled;" An ordinance mak- ing an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Councilman Harne the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the followin vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Harne, Ryberg, laite„ Bradford and Todd. (8) mays: (0) Councilmen Howell and keters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2283. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance pro- viding for the issuance iof Imrpvement Bonds of the City of Salina, Kansas, in the sum of $9120.3P to pay the cost of im- proving certain streets in said City. On motion of Councilman Waite the rules of order were suspended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, Spaeth, Harne, Ryberg,_ 44aite and Bradford and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Howell and Peters. On motion of Councilman Spaeth the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll, was called the following vote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar Spaeth, Harne, Ryberg, Waite, Bradford and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Howell and Peters absent. Thi Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2284. Street and Alley Committee to whom was referred the pe- tition asking for the curbing, guttering, excavating, grading and paving of Fifth Itreet from Elm Street north to the Mis- souri Pacific Railway Lracks, submitted the following report: Salina, Kansas . Sept. 1, 1919 To the Hon. Mayor and Councilmen, City of Salina, Kansas. Gentlemen: We, your Committee on ''treets and Alleys, to whom was referred the Petition asking for the curbing, guttering, exca- vating, grading and paving of Fifth '4treet from the north line of Elm "treet north to the Missouri Pacific Railway Tracks beg leave to report as follows: "According to an abstract furnished by a bonded abstract- er we find that a majority of the resident property owners liable for the cost of such improvements have signed said pe- tition, and we therefore recommend that the prayers of the petitioners be granted." City Engineer, r G. Wakenhut, was instructed to prepare plans and specifications and estimate of cost for the curbing - guttering, excavating, grading and paving of: Fifth Street from the north line of Elm Street, north to the Missouri Pacific Railway Wracks; ,state Street, from the west line of Tenth Street to the east line of College "venue; Crawford Avenue, from the east line of Santa Fe Avenue to the west line of Fifth ''treet ; Qhio Street,,, from the north line of Iron Avenue to the south line of Ash Street. It was reported that the are light at the corner of Fourth �'treet and Crawford "venue has not been burning for the past month. on motion of Counci lrrman harne, the City Clerk was instruct- ed to notify The Salina Light, rower &. Gas Company to attend to this matter at once. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance pro- vidng for the repairing def certain sidewalks in the city of Salina, Kansas." On motion of Counciolman idaite the rules of order were suspended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Stolper, pyar, Spaeth, Marne, Ryberg, Waite, Bradford and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Howelll and Peters absent. On motion of Councilran Bradford the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the followinvote was had; Ayes: Stolper, Dyar, 'Lite Spaeth, Harne, Ryberg Bradford and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen floweil and teters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2285. Sidewalk Committee reported unfavorable on the petition asking for the constructionvenue toof a sidewalk Missouri Pacificside Railf Cedar Street from College Rail- way Tracks. On motion, the report of the Committee was adopted. The following resolution was introduced: 1 1 1 F, 1 BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, that The Salina Fater Works Company be and it is hereby directed to lay and install a six inch water main on Center Street in the Gity, connected with its present main on Fifth Ltreet and running east a distance of 850 feet, and to place a fire hydrant at such place as the Fire Chief of said City may direct. The following resolution was introduced: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, that The Salina Eater Works Company be and it is hereby directed to lay and install a six inch water main on Otis -&venue in said City, connected with its present main on Otis -&venue in said City, connected with its present main at the intersection of said Otis "venue with Santa Fe "'venue, run - ping the same east a distance of 340 feet; thence north on rifth treet for a distance of 188 feet, and to install a fire hydrant thereon at such place as the Fire Chief of said City may direct. Councilmen of the City of Salina that The Salina � ater Works Company be and it is hereby directed to lay and install a six inch water main on College "venue and extend the same to Morrison avenue, from and connected with its present main on South Street, and to install a fire hydrant as such place thereon as the mire Chief may direct.
