The minutes of the Regular = eini -I onthly Meeting,, of July 7th, 1919, were read and approved as read. I J. Ii, Ueis, et al., appeared before the Council in refer- ence to the City extending water main on East Iron Avenue to ac- comodat e the new Maryi;iount Academy, and stated that the Salina ;Mater Works Company would construct the said water extension if j the City would advance ri:oney for the actual cost of construction j and thr.t said Company -could reiriburse the CYt�r for said a.rnount � expended for the water rent derived from said Jextension. gc motion of Councilr:an Lradford the request was granted. i E. C. Elliott appeared before the Council and asked the Council to construct a crossing on Crawford avenue and front Street, stating that he had constructed a sidewalk adjacent to i his property and wished an outlet from sidewalk. The matter -vas referred to the Street and Alley Committee. F. h. �,,incy appeared before the Council in reference to Era rid stand in hen -rood Park, stating;, that if the City would con- strL:ct the grand. stand., the Chamber of C ornrierce would donate y 2, 000.00 toward the cost of the same. Said 21000.00 would be the amount that would have to be expended for temporary seating ! capacity for the auto races to be held during the first week of -epter:,ber, 1919. Councilman '+aite moved that the matter be referred to a Special Committee with power to act. mayor Mathews appointed a Special Committee composed of Councilmen -Bradford, Todd, Stolper, Howell and Dyar to confer :rith i'he Chamber of Coirrnerce in tree above :atter. Chamber of Cor,merce asked the City Council to pass a reso- lution requesting the business men on Santa Fe and Iron -venues { to discontinue the practice of p«rkinr,- their cars on the above named streets on aa.turdalTs and special. days, lonfer than one- half hour at a. tit e, thereby giving the oi_t of town shoppers a place to park their cars while trading at the steres in the U ity. Councilman Spaeth ,roved that the request be granted. PIa jor Ganssle of the Iviilitary College appeared before the Council -nd asked for extension of water main on Otis ii -venue across Fifth Street to accomodate a number c:f cottages that are being erected to accomodate the students of said college. councilman Spaeth roved that the request be granted. Councilman Spaeth moved that further tire be granted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinancemaking an appropriation for the payment of certain cl.air,,s." An ordinance was introduced entitled: ItAnordinance levy- ing and assessing special assessments on certain lots and pij_- es of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pas* the cost of excavating, curbing, Eutteri ig, paving and grading certain streets in said City, and relating to and providing for the collection of such assessments." On motion of Councilman Spaeth the rules of order were suspended for its consideration by the following vote• Ayes: Stolper, Lyar, Spaeth, Howell, Harney Ryberg, 7caite, bra dford and Todd. The following resolution was introduced: BE IT RESOLVED, , By the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, that The Salina our=ter Company be and it is hereby directed to lay install on Eleventh Street in said City, from Elm to Bishop Streets and connected with its mains on said streets, a six (6) inch water main and to place fire hydrants at such places as may be direct- ed by the Fire Chief. Councilman Dya.r called the attention to the oouncil of the necessity of constructing toilets in the City Park and. Ken- wood nark. The matter was referred to the Park Coranittee with power to act . It was reported to the I-ouncil that Geo. Powell who oper- ates a Pool Hall on -jest Bishop street had been convicted for selling cigarettes. Councilman ' L:ite roved th�,.t the Pool Hall License granted --- to Geo. H=owell, by the Council, July 7th, 1919, be revoked, and on roll call the motion was unanimously adopted by the Council. 4n application as received from H. C. �'reinle asking for permission to remove about forty-five 05) feet of curb adjacent to Lot Eighty (80) on Seventh and 4sh Street, to accomodate an oil filling station.
