The minutes of the Snecial fteeting of June 16th, 1 919,
and the Regular 2emi-monthly meeting of Jude 16th, 1919, were
read and approved as read.
Chas. Bren of the Chamber of Commerce �)ppea.red before the
council in reference to the establishing of a 1)@y Yursery in
the city of Salina, Kansas.
Councilman Spaeth moved that the matter be referred to a
committee to confer with the Chamber of Commerce and Buildi.n-
Commit tee .
President of the Council and Acting Matror appointed Coun-
cilmen Spaeth, Dyar and harne to act as such committee.
C. H. Gawthrop appeared before the Council in reference to
the:.k`+rkinL of the streets for the parkin; 01' automobiles.
On motion, the matter was referred to the Street and Alley
Comrlittee ., with power to act.
Councilman Spaeth moved that ti_e City r,ttorney draw a reso-
lution ordering a water mian on El6venth Street from Elm atred,
to Dishop Street.

Councilmen Rybehg and Peters absent. The kresident of the
Council and ..sting T:iayor approved the same and is numbered 2270.

Councilman Marne of the Street and Alley Committee report-
ed and recorunended the installation of the following arc lights:

On motion the report of the Committee aa.s aclo pted, and

Councilman Dyar called the attent - on of the Council to
the practice of automobiles running in the City with cut-outs
open, especially near the hospitals, and roved that the City
Clerk publish a notice in the paper, cautioning t -.e parties,
and that the Street Commissioner put signs near each of the
two hospitals.
Councilman Spaeth moved that tyre City Clerk notify the
Rock island railway Company to re+.ir their crossings on T?inch
Street at once.
Councilman Waite moved that t -, "e City Clerk publish a no-
tice in the paper calling; the attention to the propert;r owners
oi' the necessity of trimming trees across sidewalks and streets.
City Httorney, G. A. Spencer, to whom was referred the
i„atter of permitting; U. S. Pail. Carriers to ride on street cars
reported, that in his opinion, toe franchise permitted mail car-
riers to ride on street cars coring and 1-oing from work, as
as durinC, ti -_e actual performance of their duties.
Counci Lt,an Howell stated l,h.at the Fire Depart lent Commit-
tee, had disposed of the Fire Chief's old car for the sum of
$52.00
The matter of appointing an inspector for plumbing, wir-
ing, and building was discussed by the Council, and Councilman
Bradford moved that the matter be referred to a committee to
report at the next meeting.
The ratter was referred to the Public Health Committee.
It was reported that the paving contractor had taken pos-
session of the stables in Oakdale Park for the housing of his
horses.
The, matter was referr(-,,d_ to the Park Committee for investi-
gation and with power to act.

On motion of Coua cil Spaeth licenses were granted, r,'o-
tion adopted.
A petition was received asking for the eYtens i on of do-
mestic service ripe on Kirwin Avenue east of Santa. Fe-1venue.
Sarne was referred to t} -re Corporation and Franchise Committee.
A petition •teras received asking for the location of an
arc light at the corner of Front Street and Crawford t1venue;
also for the extension of light service ori i"ront Street, Second,
Third and Fourth Streets from trescott avenue to Bond Street.
Same was ref,:.rred to the Street and Alley Committee.
The appraisers report for the curbing, �rttering, exca-
vatin�, grading and paving of Second Street from Iron Avenue,
s outh 400 feet , was rete ived, and on mot i on of Counc i lman Harne,
Monday, evening, July 21st, 1919 at 8 O'clock P. 14'• was desig -
nated as a Special ivieeting, at which time and ,)lace the apprais-
ers report will be taken up and acted upon b;r the Council, and
all pelsons affected by such improvements can be present arid be
heare if they so desire., and that the City Clear give notice
in the official City paper as provided by law.
