01-27-1919 MinutesCOUNCIL PROCEEDINUS, rLDJOURNED MEETING. COUNCIL CHAMBER, SALINA , KANSAS. JANUARY 27th, 1919. Adjourned meeting of the City Council, January 27th, 1919. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the fol- lowing named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Reed, brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. Councilman Ri cholson absent. The following resolution was introduced: WHEREAS, Ash Street in the City of Salina, Kansas, from Santa Fe Avenue west to Eighth Street and Iron Avenue in said City from Santa Fe -Avenue west to Eighth Street are both paved, curbed, guttered and excavated, and WHEREAS, the alley between Seventh and Eighth Streets in said City Connects both Iron Avenue and Ash Street at the paved poerion thereof, and WHEREAS, the distance between said Ash Street and Iron Avenue at the intervention of the alley between Seventh and Eighth Street is but one block in length, Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, that it is deemed necessary to grade, excavate, and page said alley between Seventh and Eighth Streets in said City from the south line of Ash Street to the north line of Iron Aven- ue, the same being an intervening, connecting alley between said streets, and be it resolved that said alley within the limits above described be graded, excavated and paved. On motion of Gouncilman Brown the rules of order were sus- pended for its consideration and the resolution adopted as read by the following vote; Ayes: Undetwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Richolson absent. Councilman Underwood of the Building Committee submitted plans for the remodeling of the old .Fire Station. Councilman Brown moved that the same be adopted by the Coun- cil, and that as soon as the Committee prepares the necessary specifications the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the remodeling of the building. Motion adopted. The following resolution was introduced: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, Kansas., that the Mayor and City Clerk be, and they are hereby authorized and directed to execute and deliver on be- half of said City the contract with The Missouri Facific Railroad ompany, covering the construction, maintenance and operation of the City Sewer under the tracks and across the Right -of -Way of The Missouri Pacific Railroad company on front Street in Salina, Kansas. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Rich- olson absent. 1 i I r A representative of The Republic Truck Company appeared before the Council and submitted a proposition for Republic fire apparatus. i Same was discussed by members of the Council and citizens present. Councilman Smith moved that the Mayor, Fire Department Committee, and Fire Chief be authorized to purchase a No. 75, 750 -gallon American LaFrance Pump and Combination Wagon. On roll call the motion was adopted by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Waite and Pe- ters. (6) Nays: Reed, Brown and Todd. (3) Councilman Richolson absent. On motion of Councilman Underwood, Council adjourned. City Clerk.
